I bought and sold the Akai MPC 2000XL five times! Couldn't make up my mind

Sold my ESQ-1 cause I just wasn't using it enough. Ended up regretting it and buying it back from the same guy for the same price I sold it for. Ended up eventually selling it again.

Sold my GRP A4 when I got really sick. I really missed it so I ended up buying another one new from Paolo. I still have it. No soft synth I have comes close to that beast.

Have thought about repurchasing the K5000S I sold cause it is awesome to play and the keybed is to die for, Haven't done it yet because software has really has caught up in additive (Pigments 6 especially) so less of a need.

Miss my AN1x. Besides being a good VA on its own, it was a great keyboard to take around with me to random locations because it was so light and easy to carry with a nice keybed and controllers. If I tripped over a cheap one I might pick that up.

Have many times thought about selling my K2600XS but am so happy I never did. It is the ultimate controller keyboard (sans MPE) and a great synth on it's own. Heavy as hell though!

Sold my LXR-02 when I got the Perkons because surely the Perkons covers everything! I quickly missed the LXR-02 not least because it's so small. In fact I fell in love with it again so hard I sold the Perkons. Now I have deep Perkons regret and think I actually need both.

I can't remember if I already replied to this thread, but I think the only one for me was my FS1R. I bought it new at blowout prices ($300 IIRC). By the mid 20-teens prices had climbed to crazy levels. It sold on eBay for $1100 in about a day. I started regretting it almost immediately, so I kept my eyes out and within 4 months I found another that was less than what I got for selling the first one. So I made about $350-400 on that little bit of arbitrage, and I still have an FS1R.

Getting an old Bass Station keyboard has crossed my mind. Had the rack version twice but there is something very nice about having a keyboard on the synth. I wonder if they sound any different? Ignoring the osc sync etc. Anyone had both at the same time?

That seems hard to justify to me since we've got the BSII now. I had a Super Bass Station in the past, and the BSII put it to shame and is easier to find/buy.

I had the Super one for a bit, that was even more fiddly than the original BSR, another row of tiny knobs. Weak chorus. That soon went.

I think they changed the filter slightly between the 1 and the 2. CA3080 vs LM13700 OTA chips I think. Might not make any difference. I remember the SBS was laggy because they'd pushed it a bit too far so I was thinking maybe the BSK was less steppy than the BSR. I'd probably leap on a BSK if I found one cheap. Seems to be a lot of broken ones around now though.

Thinking about it, a new MS-1 Mk2 is probably a saner buy.

no but i replaced the keyboard version with the 1st rack version with no regrets. had a super for a bit but it was broken, went to a member here who was able to fix it.

if you wanted a modern analogue with dual osc voices and memories and midiCC now, would you not think of the Pro-800? - yeah, no keyboard, but with a keystep37? it does mono in unison mode.

I bought and sold the Dave Smith Sequential Prophet REV2 four times (!?) until my fifth time (the 16 voice keyboard) I realized what a chameleon and beautiful instrument it is.


I went through a couple of REV2s during my early explorations into "serious" synths and initially I wasn't crazy about the sounds.
After owning a few other higher-end synths (Pro 2, Prophet 6, Pro 3, Prologue, Take 5) I discovered it all comes down to programming and the REV2 hangs with the best of 'em.

I've bought and sold a lot since then, but this one is never leaving again....

I've got a Pro 800 that I've not dug into enough yet. The appeal of the BSK to me is it's a little keyboard that can be picked up and played. I've been playing my K-Station recently and that's a very good little size for that. I find it a lot more inspirational having a keyboard. Like the BOdyssey, that is fantastic to play but it's too flipping big and heavy for lap use. Even the MS-1 is about on the limit for parking it on a lap. I borrowed a BSK years back, they are tiny and plasticky, just on the right side of toyish. Maybe I should try a Monologue.

honestly, i got a BassStation (KB) when they came out, and i tried very hard to like it. still not even sure about the BS Rack that i've had for over 20yrs, but there's a certain modernity about the design that i like (and it's so small, not taking up much space.)

if you like K-Station, and want a Bass Station, maybe BSII (is the one 4 U )

I know what you mean, there is a reason why I sold my previous ones so doing it again is probably a daft idea. The Aphex mode on the BSII does look brilliant. Just had a look at the BS prices on Ebay, they're all over the place with many at the ridiculous end. 400 quid for the SBS! Crazy when a brand new Uli-box can be had for 150 quid these days.

kinda fond of me ole BSrack though, and it doesn't take up 'any' space. still need to try to run it as a cv&gate slave, never tried that. it was good for driving the MS10 i had from QY20, that was quite good, crappy GM QY drums with bass station and dark acid ms10. now lives in a rack with drumstation and mb33mkII.

Yes that is a rare feature, CV/gate to MIDI as well as the usual way round. And definitely small enough to keep around.

I've never tried it! Very niche. I think the very early Roland sequencers had to have CV to MIDI boxes when MIDI got launched.

Love the AN1X. Wonderful sounds and great as a midi kb too.

Looks like I'll have another one to add to the out-and-back list. I'm in talks to trade my Emax Keyboard, which I upgraded from a non-working base model to an SE HD with SCSI2SD, for an Emax Rack, which is a base model with a version 2 board so I'll have to perform the upgrade again. This time, I'll install ZuluSCSI and possibly try to fit a slim floppy on top of the holder.

Nice thread. Thinking about it, my two were sold in the same batch at the same time- Roland JP-8080 and the Nord Micro Modular.

Both since rebought many years later and they're definitely staying this time.
