Yeah Stylophone has been upping their game big time lately.

Seeing so much right about this little box. Just enough features to allow for a very diverse range of sound, but not so much it clutters the interface. On-board fx sound good and are a nice bonus. Just enough patch points to be useful without being overwhelming. And WTF that price makes it a bargain IMHO. Very tempted.

Yeah, she can come sit in in our jam sessions down here any time she likes.

I love to see it when older women are doing creative and active stuff. The whole notion that women of a certain age are supposed to be relegated to tending their gardens needs to go away.

Grannies nowadays are rocking out, riding motorcycles, hiking, kayaking and living their best years like they’re young again.

Hell yeah I’d love to jam out with her too. Hopefully I’ll still be jamming myself at her age!

And like the 68 Y/O neighbor I had I hope I’m still riding bikes like her at that age.

Dubreq ought to make this lovely lady their spokeswoman.

Some of the best theremin players who have ever lived were women, including several who are active today. Maybe Neanderthals aren’t the target audience.

Did I say women can't play a theremin? No I didn't. So you can put your high horse back in the stall, sir White Knight of PC sensitivity.

This synth seems like a nice fit for a desktop rig with some effects pedals. Just twist and doodle away. Sound isn't as abrasive as I first feared.

I just saw Tiger Arcade’s video about this. I’m intrigued, and tempted. Why do I always GAS for tiny, limited synths?

From looking at it, it has 2 3340 VCOs with modulatable waveform blending, and each osc is hardwired into its own multi mode 3320 filter. I don’t see filter inputs so no way to run external signals thru the filters.

The LFO appears to be a single LFO but with two simultaneous waveforms, routable to osc pitch or X-wave (waveform blend) and filter cutoff. PWM
available by patching. Looks like the delay can be modulated by the LFO as well.

Built-in delay and reverb with an external input is always nice to have. If they sound good, they could be used with other synths too.

Output can be stereo. I wonder if that’s just for the effects (ping pong delay/stereo reverb) or if the two osc/filter stacks are hard panned left and right.

No envelope, but it is advertised as a drone synth. Perhaps some of the LFO waveforms can act as an envelope along with the reset input as a gate/trigger.

It can run on batteries and has a built-in speaker, so you can synth anywhere. One of the pictures makes it look like there’s a power jack and switch on the back.

Anyone see a CV output for the antenna?

You got everything right except the stereo/mono switch, it's just for the reverb which is last in the signal chain, the idea being that if you want to patch the main output into some other module in a Eurorack, you have a mono option.

Pre ordered too good not to.

I’m tempted to preorder this, but with “having too much stuff” now, I have to ask myself, will this thing give me any capabilities, or inspiration, that my existing gear doesn’t?

Maybe a few “LFO waveforms” I don’t have now, but I already have plenty of oscillators, filters, delays and reverbs in my existing gear.

I like drones, but I can create them already with my existing gear.

It might be fun for one of my tabletop/front porch jams. But so is my existing gear.

It makes for a pretty inexpensive expansion for a Eurorack setup though. And it’s an analog synth that can run on batteries.

I’ll hold off for now, but I could have a moment of weakness and click “order” in the future.

I signed up. I am a drone fan and have multiple drone boxes, as well as a modular dedicated to drone.
This box is a must have. It manages to bring drone into features that are mainstream, and the sound is excellent. I still love all my drone machines but this one is now co-chair of my drone board.

For me this is a sit down, phones on and enjoy studio time without being in my studio - hence the pre-order

Drone boxes aren’t really my thing, but this new DS-2 module sounds really, really good. Quite an interesting interface / architecture, super easy to get things going.

My kids would love it

I’m liking this thing more with each new video. Seems like they have a real knockout with this one.

1. How would one sync this to MIDI clock using a sequencer that has gate out? via the LFO Reset input, yes? (with LFO assigned to the filters)

2. And is it OK to split the CV signal from my sequencer so I can control the pitch of each osc? (EDIT: nvm, I nust remembered about the D2’s Link button)

I know that’s not what a drone synth is for. I’m envisioning additional use cases in my setup. I already have a fantastic idea for using the drone synth (a sentence I never thought I’d ever say haha).

3. Also, is it safe for the instruments if I connect/disconnect cables while the instruments are running? Does this cause any loud (or quiet) pop or distorition in the audio chain?

Pardon my noobie questions. I’ve mostly ignored modular/semimodular gear until I stumbled upon this. The D2 and the theremin video have given me (and everyone else, I’m sure) an exciting idea for a fun little band.

4. Does connecting to the D2’s and theremin’s line outs silence the speakers?

P.S.: Because I ignored semimodular gear, I missed the Gen R-8. Today I join the chorus of hopefuls chanting for its return.

Crap, now I’ve got to start paying attention to past/current/future affordable tabletop semimodulars. “Yay!” said my creditors.

Hi Robotunes,

1. Correct, patch gate from your sequencer into the LFO Reset patch point and it will reset the LFO every time it receives a gate signal.

2. Yes that's how you'd do it, split the CV signal and route to both Pitch inputs. The Pitch in patch points are seperate CV (1V/Oct) inputs for each oscillator. The Pitch Link switch only links the Pitch knobs, so you can tune both oscillators with the Pitch knob on Drone I, the Pitch knob on Drone II then works as an offset.

3. If you watch the Sonic State video above you'll see Matt patching while it's playing, there's no noise.

4. Connecting to the Main Out (line out) on the DS-2 doesn't silence the speaker, however connecting to Phones out does. Main Out and Phones/Speaker also have seperate volume controls.

One more question, please: Does the synth play the pitch I send it, or is my sequencer’s pitch added to/subtracted from the frequency set by the oscillator’s knob?

I’ll be preordering the DS2 and Pitch Theremin shortly. I’m excited!

Most semi modular synths sum all the CVs together going to oscillator pitch. So the pitch CV you send it via the patch point gets added to the pitch set by the pitch knobs, LFO etc.

The beauty of this is you can tune the synth to any key using the osc pitch knob.
