used to own two, one with 8 modules, and the other with 4
The modules have far less hiss/noise than an OG DX7, or a TX7, and have balanced XLR outputs
Each module has it's own output and you need to run it into a mixer
They are obviously awesome for creating layered sounds, and Yamah gives you instructions for layering 8 modules of the same patch all slightly detuned and panned separately using a mixer for GIANT sounds
I am willing to bet most FM sounds you hear on 1980s are the TX816 and not a DX7
The only downside to them is they have zero controls for editing so you need a Computer or a DX7 to act as an editor and librarian
Ultimately running 4 instances of Plogue OPS7 gives you the same exact sound, especially as you need a computer anyway as a editor librarian
Those used to be a giant bargain as nobody wanted them. I paid $400 for a minty one with 8 modules, that I sold for $1500 couldn't say no
