Actually there are three TI2s for sale locally that have been listed for a very long time that aren't selling. One of them (Virus TI2 61 key in mint condition) was previously listed locally for $1650 for over three years and it never sold. I spoke to him twice about coming to look at it and he sounded like a nutcase so I passed ("I will only meet with you on the condition that you promise to buy it once I demonstrate that it works."). Now the same seller has relisted it for a thousand dollars more than that and -- big surprise -- it's still not selling after another year.

The other two are a Polar TI2 and a Darkstar, and they're also just sitting there for over a year.

When you say "prices are going up" you're referring to asking prices, which has nothing to do with whether they sell or not. There are always going to be people who price things in the stratosphere on Reverb to cash in on hype, but the Reverb sale history (and advanced search of "completed items" on eBay) always tell a different story.

i use both, my point being the tech has moved on since the virus, and using the term plugin as a negative makes no sense when a virus is just a standalone cpu running a plugin.

Give it some time, people need some time to understand what they had, then the shitshow will start like on wallstreet..

I don't mean to be rude but your local anecdotal market doesn't mean anything. Prices on eBay and Reverb, which are the gold standard for the resell market, have risen since the product was discontinued. The release of a plugin emulation appears to have had zero impact on prices.

No offense taken. My local anecdotal market example actually means a lot, because it mirrors what is happening on Reverb and eBay globally. People are listing them for $2800-$3500 but they're not selling. TI2 61 key, Darkstar, and Polar -- when they're selling at all -- are going for the usual $1800-$2200.

The prices have risen since the product was discontinued. Both asking and final sell price.

JP-8080 module was $500 a few years ago and now it's $1300. People want that old school trance sound for the feels, and most pros aren't dumping their stock so.

What stand is that holding the desktop? Looks nice and at a good angle.

It's just a basic laptop computer stand. I have several different ones in my studio and don't recall exactly which one it is, but probably a BESIGN LSX6N. I'll confirm when I get home from work this evening.

Also, ftr the only reason I have two Viruses is because I'm replacing the Polar TI2 with the like-new desktop version that I just bought. I love the Polar, but the desktop will be much better for space/ergonomics.

What about keeping the Polar as a backup? Prices have been all over the place on TIs since their discontinuation, and to me, it feels like the keys make it more like an instrument than a sound module. I feel more of a connection to my Key 61 when patching and programming than I ever did to the half-dozen desktops that have gone through my studio.

While I agree with this 100%, I actually gave that quite a bit of thought before I decided to buy the desktop. I'm just simply way out of space and inputs, so the desktop purchase is one in a series of strategic steps (sacrifices!) to improve my studio ergonomics and organization. I actually have the Polar positioned at a desk behind me and on the other side of my studio, so I usually end up using it as a module anyway (i.e., control it from my MIDI controller). With the desktop, I can put it on a stand within arms reach and actually be more hands-on with it. Also, a TEO-5 is on my to-buy list and, unfortunately, there's no desktop option for that one, so I need that precious desktop space.

Well, I may end up replacing my Darkstar with a malfunctioning keyboard if Access can't get me sorted out with a replacement controller board... give me a holler if you do end up moving that Polar (if you haven't already )

I've always hated synths that access patches through a rotary dial or inc/dec buttons.. loved the dx7 for the 32 patches at your fingertips. I love my ESQ1 for those simple little gray buttons to select all the patches on a single screen..
it's for this reason I'm thinking of selling my practically still new ti2 and getting a jupitre x
I still haven't gone through all the patches on my virus 'cause it's such a pain dialing through each bankeach bank.

You'll lose modulation options, wavetables, the grain simple and complex oscillators and the sound character. Also does the Jupiter X allow two filters in parallel or series?

I prefer the phaser, delay, and reverb on the Virus. You'll gain Roland esque sounds and its filters. But the synth side will be more basic while Zencore will be more Rompler.

Get the Ostilus, and you'll not lose the sound of the Virus. And with a touch screen monitor, you can choose presets with your fingertip. No wheel nor up-down buttons.

You are suggesting to do an illegal thing, not much different then suggesting to use cracked plugins.
In theory you can't run Ostirus without owning the TI because you are using a firmware made by Access.

Funny, I'm the other way around. I love the synth on the Virus, but I would love it if it had Roland's choruses, reverbs, and delays.

I dunno, man. I'm a bit of a luddite when it comes to software, and I have a TI2 keyboard, but I'm truly impressed with how Ostirus is equally easy to use, and even sounds better to an extent because it bypasses that awful DAC. In general, I'd agree with you, but The Usual Suspects did a damn fine job of cloning it for free.

So I've finally got some downtime to play with my synths. Got an Apple M2 and I know the old Access software doesn't work anymore, so I was wondering - has anyone had any success running it inside VirtualBox with the USB connected to their Access Virus?
