Companies can collaborate without being under the same umbrella. I think it's no different here. Unless this new "Oberheim" is also under that umbrella now and we don't know it.

I'd like to see a Matrix-12 and Xpander. Especially if they both have the CV inputs of the Xpander. That way everyone is happy. The polysynth fans get their super poly synth, and the CV/Gate/Eurorack cultists (me included) get their fiddly CV control.

I'd like to see more synths that are almost like a "modular in a box" like the Xpander.

Yeah, I am still really excited for the OB-6. It is small enough, I think I could keep a space for it no matter what happens.

I can't imagine the new Oberheim being a complete rehash/upgrade of the OB-6. I'm sure it will be unique in it's own way. I'm just worried I won't have enough money for the new Oberheim for a few years...

The P6 and P5 are different. Why would they make a new OB the same but more than the OB-6? The only reason would maybe be if they’re going to discontinue the OB-6.

You will think I am completely insane. I have no interest in reissues of vintage synths, or modern analog synths at all really.

I am psychic. Not joking and don't expect you believe me. There are omens and psychic energy surrounding this release normally associated with the birth of a prophet. No pun is intended.

When what I say comes true, remember this post. These synths will be like nothing you've ever seen or heard before.

Oberheim <3 <3 <3

My wishes:

OB-Xa and/or OB-X with hardware envelopes

DMX & DX in one smaller box with original eproms

Nothing added (except midi and usb).

Price and quality like Sequential products. Effort put to make the amp section sound vintage, i.e. slightly muddy, warm and oomphy, not crispy and clean (musical and nostalgic > hi tech).

They would have likely rested on their laurels otherwise. Now it's a race between UBXA and whatever this is.

I really don't think that's the case here, but Behringer might have helped the industry in general by boosting the interest of the consumers in analog synths.

Didn't Dave explicitly say he would never go back and do reissues? Behringer are working on a Prophet 5 and all of a sudden...

Behringer tried to grab the dormant Oberhiem trademark, I'm sure that had an impact here. Once again all of a sudden the OB website sprang into life...

So, i believe it’s time for me to retire my name. I humbly bow to the original Tom (my personal name is also Tom, and I worship Oberheim synths, hence my tag. Never thought it would ever come back but always dreamed!) goodbye everyone, it’s been great. I shall return in a different guise and ask GS to delete my profile permanently so that the almighty Oberheim can retake all territory that is rightfully theirs. Oberheim, go forth and conquer all. I will be buying you new synth without a doubt.

Not really, the interest in analog was growing before before they ever even released a synth. Around 2012 I started to see bands adding Analog synths to their stage setups and it just rapidly grew from there.

Not me, I love analog but most of my setup is digital. I just want synths that make abrasive sounds, the nastier the better.
