I've run into a very annoying bug, and I'm not 100% sure if it's down to the Modwave or my controller (Jupiter Xm).

If I try to set up a modulation for Filter Resonance, the Modwave recognizes the JP-Xm's incoming message correctly (CC 9), but the value just will not increase or decrease no matter how high I set the modulation intensity.

I tried running the Xm into a MIDI examiner, and the values look completely fine. CC9, all the way from 0 to 127 with the twist of a knob.

Weirdly, if I choose any other knob/fader on the Xm...it works.

After experimenting a bit more, I found an imperfect solution...in case anyone ever runs into this issue with a pairing of Jupiter Xm + Korg synth.

The controls on the Jupiter X/Xm transmit different MIDI CCs depending on which engine/model you're using, but also depending on which oscillator/partial you have selected.

Switching over to the XV5080 (oscillator 3) gives you the most access to useable knobs.

I'd still like to know why CC9 in particular causes an issue, and whether that's down to the Jupiter or the Korg. Will try investigate with another controller later..and potentially submit a bit for one or the other depending on the result.

For my podcast this week I interview Peter "Ski" Schwartz and he gave a master class in modulation and mod processors on the Modwave.
Peter created many of the factor presets on the Modwave and many other Korg synths including Ski Jam on the Wavestation.

Are any more updates planned for the Modwave?

Has anyone swapped/traded their Wavestate for a Modwave?

If so, what has made you happy you did and is there anything you miss about the Wavestate?

I like the Wavestate and it produces some really good sonics (punching well above its little lightweight chassis) but the Modwave seems to go deeper into the rabbit hole from a pure synthesis pov.

I know I'm effectively halving the polyphony and multi-timbral capability but think the sacrifice would be worth it (also frustrated with Korg's implementation of the reverb master effect for the Wavestate i.e. there are no sends from anyone of the 4 individual tones effectively making the multi-timbral aspect mostly redundant if you want to use the reverb).

Any thoughts or recommendations?

I have both and if you want to do analog synthesis then the Modwave is better. Wave sequencing is only on the Wavestate.

There's still a significant bug. The latest update added new modulation sources that work in the native software version but not on the device. When you try to access them, they don't appear on the display, according to some users on Gearspace. Korg has been aware of this issue since April 2024 . The bug seems to still be there. I'm starting to get the feeling that Korg is showing relatively little motivation to maintain the hardware versions of the new plugins, while this bug doesn't exist in the native version. So will be a Future Update for the Modwave Mk2 to solve the Problems?
