I bet you could turn this into a kickass controller for the Reface DX. You get 8 controllers for each of 4OP’s. Probably level, ADSR time, sustain level, pitch, and feedback. That would open up the interface a lot, and would be more flexible (for other gear) than that dedicated DX controller I’ve seen floating around.

I still have my BCR2000, which I use to control my Mopho desktop. This would be an instant buy for me as well, most likely dedicated to my TX81z.

My only complaint about the BCR2000 is that the programming software is terrible and (AFAIK) no longer supported. I’d hope that Behringer would release better software with a longer term support plan. I’m not holding my breath.

I love my BCR but I HATE this new version. Now, I know some people liked the fact they could mod a BCR to be a sequencer but that's not the main purpose of it.
I don't want all those fixed labels related to a feature I don't use.

I just want a midi controller with rotaries.

Yes, if it supports SysEx.

Hopefully yes, since they are going into the software DAW business, most likely using JUCE for cross-platform stuff. Or use WebMIDI, which is well supported.

Fixed labels means well thought-out UI and matching firmware.
Going generic often leads to a jack of all trades, master of none product.
Plenty of alternatives in this league already.

My wishlist: 32 buttons up top. USB Host. Shift button. OLED at the top. Touch sensitive knobs. MIDI 2. Ethernet / OSC / Bluetooth. Shortcuts. Plugins

1. 32 Buttons: better alignment with the 32 knobs for setup and performance. Mutes per step etc.
2. USB Host: plug a USB hub and a bunch of synths directly in
3. Shift button: Adding a single button doubles every function on the board
4. OLED: put a wide OLED display similar to the Novation SL Mk2. Allows better feedback around what is being controlled / display automation etc.
5. Touch sensitive knobs: touch to display the actual value of a knob (0-127 / 16384) and maybe a parameter name in the OLED
6. MIDI 2: higher resolution controllers, up/download midi sequences and CC configs
7. Ethernet / OSC / Bluetooth: sometimes USB isn't the best protocol. Imagine controlling an iPad app, or interfacing with an X32 rack with this
8. Programmable shortcut keys: make it easy to flip to the drum track / whatever. The extra 2 rows of buttons up top adds some space for these on the right.
9. Plugins: similar to the way Korg synths have a plugin approach to adding functionality, why not try for something similar here. Include enough capacity to make this possible as a firmware upgrade eventually

The guy in the vid speculates that this would have 16 tracks, but right there on the screen the drums track is "006", not "06", so my guess is more than that...!

They are absolutely relentless. And I think they deserve credit for teaming up with this guy to make this happen. Behringer was told many times here how much an updated BCR controller was desired. The dude listens.

The only thing I'd go out on a limb and say is that while BCR + ZAQ is cool, we can do much better. Software is cheap, setting the sights on being equivalent to something that came before is not really a lofty goal. Imagine if Behringer invested in real software, imagine if they came out with a $299 device to compete with the cirklon, polyend, akai force, etc. I'll buy the BCR32, because I've wanted what it does for a while, but as a software developer myself, I can see so much untapped potential for greatness in this space.

Edit: note I want to make it clear that I agree with your statement This really is damn awesome that Uli listens to the voice of the customer and teaming up with the Zaq dude was really the right thing here. Glad they got that done!

Well I'm not a dev so I don't give two flying fudges about the lack of code optimization going on in a musical device.

or two, if 32 knobs is not enough.
or 3, if 64 knobs is also not enough — and 96 knobs still would be cheaper.

I'm not the biggest fan of some of Behringer's choices, but kudos to them for enlisting the ZAQ Audio developer to help develop this. I used Zaquencer for awhile and it was excellent.

Korg should follow their lead and enlist pajen to make a better firmware for the Volca Sample V2.

I was one of the people one here and facebook who suggested Uli should look at joining up with the bloke who did the Zaq. I'm another one who had one for sequencing but a mate "borrowed" it so he could try it with his softsynths as a control surface with the original Behri firmware.
Ironic they are cloning something of their own that was hacked.

I won't buy it. They have lost a good opportunity to add some OLED displays so you can know what function is assigned to each knob when you change between programs.

I already have a BCR2000 and I ended up using it just for ONE synth (DW8000) because using paper templates to identify the knobs turns the device into unusable crap.

I'm waiting for the next batch of the Electra One (https://electra.one/). It is priced much higher than the BCR32, but I will get a product that is useful to me.

The first thing I looked for when I saw the new build was scribble strips. It’d probably jack the price up, but I absolutely love that function on everything from my Force to old Novation controllers. I’m still interested in seeing how this develops but I hope for more visual cues in the build.

I would pay twice for the BCR32 if it had some OLED strips ala Novation Remote SL.
