The turntable doesn't look as to be as good as the super OEM's on the market, it looks like it might be a budget/starter direct drive deck...

its a Boutique so its priced/function below the Aria line, might not even be on par with the TR-8 sound set and all of its capabilities.

Sounds like the TR-09 hype is micro-timing, which for a 909 soundset is kind of weird right? I mean its not like wild sounds from the Syncussion SY-1 that cover all sorts of tones and decays that would be interesting to harness into micro timing events.

Nice of them to incorporate the TR-606 ability to switch between write and play modes while the sequencer is running.
Not sure if they will allow the TR-09 to run other gear via midi / note#s, and if they do is it possible to edit the midi channel per drum and set different note#'s like on the TR-626 that totally rocks in the MIDI world.

Surprised: I was shocked, at how badly designed they were. Perhaps they sounded good, but it was virtually impossible to read the front panel, the controls felt flimsy and cheap, and the whole visual impact was terrible: panels covered in greasy fingerprints after minutes of use. Classic instruments (even the EDP Wasp!) have the whole package: great sound, great layout of controls, high quality hardware. Roland seem to think they can get away with sub-standard 'futuristic' (crappy) design it the instruments sound good.

The XA's analogue engine is much better and much more capable than the Xi's.

The Xi's engine is very simple, more simple than the DM12's, don't think it would please anyone. The XA's engine with more voices would be better, and I can see it happen, but, while it has a sweet Roland character, it does not have a vintage Roland sound, so many would still be unhappy.

Subject to a couple of details I want to know, I'll be getting the System-8 and the VP-03.

Questions are -

System-8; what are the sequencer features - does it transpose? Has it a song approach? Can I put a 106 on the lower split and a Jup8 on the upper split? Is the 106 chorus in there and available to all instruments?

VP-03 - if it replicates the VP-330 strings and choir then it's mine

Anyone else annoyed with the format of this roll out? It's simply not necessary to involve 10 different nations and use unreliable live streams to unveil some musical equipment, 100% of which so far has absolutely nothing to do with the TR-909. Frankly I'm sick of trying to tune in only to see some horrible cover of that horrible song 'Suddenly I See' or a guy playing a portable piano or accordion.

I may change my mind when I try it out in a shop, but I'd rather have an instrument that is designed to do one job well, rather than a 'device' that tries to do everything. I don't like the look of the System 8, and i suspect the controls and panel will feel as cheap and nasty as the System-1. Hope I'm wrong though.

That's what I figured. They could of course give it DSI Pro 12 like modulation possibilities but even then it'll still be new Roland not vintage. Frankly ACB's faux vintage character would probably win out in a blind test for many.

Flimsy controls are not attributes of the Xi or XA according to most folks. They feel very well built to me. Nothing sub standard about them.

I immediately rejected the System-1 when I touched it in a store: the key travel was a joke and the thing felt like a toy. Completely unplayable for me, and if I don't like how an instrument feels and looks I don't want to use it, no matter how good it might sound.
