Optical illusion, the prologue is tiny...feels smaller than the dm 12 even, mostly due to the wheel being above and there being nothing between the keys and end cheeks. Built like a small tank though.

Havent done a direct one to one yet, only just got her and Im trying to finish my biannual tune lol. But just from playing she is far brassier, far juicier, than the XAs section. The Prologue compliments my set up well, sounds like nothing else Ive got. Gonna load up some waveforms later...sonically brilliant synth.

Korg Prologue: One of the few modern Analog Polys that really has me excited. Sequential Prophet 6 and Moog One are the other two, and I'll eventually have all 3!

Prologue has a LOT of shortcomings, particularly as a "flagship". No aftertouch, no MIDI thru, no time signature selection for MIDI arp sync. Not to mention having only basic modulation (2x envelopes and an LFO). And the EGs and LFOs are digital (yuck!).

BUT...the thing SOUNDS glorious, and is a dream to play and tweak. The effects are also top notch...not just an add-on/afterthought. The reverbs in particular are very lush and dense. And the price point puts it as the best bang for the buck of any modern VCO synth.

Yes, the Octatrack and Prologue are a bit on the pricy side bet everything else, including the monitors (Focal Alpha 50) I paid between $200 and $250. Even the desk (Onstage WS7500...$140) is a lot of bang for the buck.

I just ordered the second tier for the Onstage Z stand. Thinking about a Deepmind 12 above the Prologue. I had a DM12D for a bit, but had some QC issues and returned it. But the sound and tweakability was definitely above it's pay grade.

And then I'll curse you for telling us that the Prologue and DM12 go together well -- I no longer have space to add either of those, let alone both ... unless my daughter switches to college in another state ...

A lot of what I like about the Sledge is experiential -- the big knobs, the eternal glide, the instantly accessible effects, the ferevvinsake patchbays, right there on the side where you easily see them. Where the S8 often seems to favor making a gorgeous backdrop, the Sledge struts right out and says HI!, like an Ozark chicken-farmer at a big-city social function. It's not at all embarrassed about being bright schoolbus-yellow, even though it should be. It's perfectly happy to be what it is. IMO, this contrasts well with the System-8's cultured politeness of presets and effects. Of course, I've only had the S8 a week, so that may just be my ignorance of its deeper possibilities.

Keep us posted on your next step -- there are so many other possibilities, and none of us can cover them all! I'm forcing myself to focus on the recording process next -- after all, I must have enough synths by now

The question I should be asking all of you -- bentley, kcearl, everyone -- is what to mix with? It's all very well to have a dozen synths, but if they are to be used all together, what are the parameters? I'm using a pair of 12-channel Harbingers into a Yamaha, which certainly serves -- but I'd think there was some particular standard for recording, to avoid unnecessary noise (besides, obviously, recording each one uniquely, plugged directly into recording gear)

I last posted in this thread a couple of years ago when I was 100% ITB. In the time since I have moved to a hybrid setup mainly because I really didn't want to upgrade my 2010 Mac. I now use my hardware for all synth sounds and the Mac, running Cubase 8.5 for sequencing and sampling which it handles comfortably.

For the writing stage of a track I monitor my hardware that has built in FX, Peak, Virus and Digitone through the MOTU mixer for close to zero latency and then I monitor the stuff without FX, MAM MB33 and Behringer Model D through a Behringer XR12 to add FX and that is connected to the last 2 channels on my MOTU 8A.

Once a track is written I record all the hardware to audio, dry without any FX. The balanced synths, Peak, Digitone, Virus and Model D go direct into the MOTU and the unbalanced MAM MB33 goes through an Audio Maintenance -10 unbalanced to +4 balanced Neve style preamp. Once I have everything recorded to audio I mix ITB in Pro Tools. I have whittled my plugins down to an absolute minimum, FET, VCA and Opto compressors, a surgical and a sweet EQ, a realistic reverb and a lush reverb etc.

I am really happy with everything, I am getting everything tracked at a high quality and I feel like I am using the computer for what it excels at and hardware for what it excels at. Every piece of hardware brings something unique to the table and anything I add in the future will have to have no overlap, I don't have the space for overlap! I have my eye on a Nord Drum 3 for drum synthesis/modelling and almost have a Shruthi XT build finished. Both of those are unbalanced and don't have FX so will go to the XR12 for FX during writing and then through more AML Neve preamps during tracking.

As I mix and master stuff I record in my commercial space I have a pretty good monitoring setup, Spiral Groove Monitor Ones, Parasound amp and Focal sub and a pair of Fostex 6301 through a Drawmer monitor controller. The room is small, 11' x 11' which was made even smaller as I needed to fill 40% of square footage of the room with Rockwool to get a pretty flat frequency response. That left me with around 8' x 7' usable floor space so it is tight but I have everything I need and a monitoring environment I can trust that would rival a lot of commercial studios.

I forgot to mention before I get accused of it. I didn't clean or tidy up before taking the photos, I hate mess and clutter and it is as in the photos all the time.

I use an 18i20 and a digimax 8, (and four preamps, four eqs)...so I can track 16 tracks at once. I use a behri x touch and expander to mix with, thats 16 tracks too. Not super high end but sounds fine to me

Id love to do the room treatment think but I only have one wall as I take up about a third of my basement space (1200sq ft) so its open at one side. Room correction software seems to work for my needs but its hardly pro...though Im hardly pro either

Yep 2 feet thickness of Rockwool on the front and back walls and a bit over 1 foot thickness on each of the side walls and the ceiling. It was probably about as unsuitable a room as you could find, small, square and 2 foot thick stone walls so no 'free' bass trapping you get with thin walls. Before I started my frequency response was 70 dB from peak to trough, when I finished it was 7 dB!

The circles are old worn out drum skins with spare cloth glued to them!

Pretty much everything was recycled except the cloth and laminate flooring, including most of the Rockwool and all the timber I salvaged from a local renovation. The whole build cost me around £1000, the cloth being the most expensive thing at over half the budget.

I had been searching for a V5 Xtramix for YEARS and always missed out. Was happy to finally add it in late 2017. Love the Barefoots! Had a pair of Focal Solo 6be's but felt like they were always missing something (low end) but these fit the bill nicely. Absolutely no regrets and they seem to translate better for me. Under the Pultec clones is a Seventh Circle audio chassis with a pair of diy API preamps and a Neve clone pre.

All depends on your workflow. When I get something sequenced, I'll start recording one synth at a time. I've got everything in a patchbay so it bypasses the mixer. I tend to tweak everything once it's recorded so what goes in might not necessarily be what the final sound is. Not sure there is a standard so it's whatever fits your workflow/desired outcome.

I am in the same camp. Mess and clutter disturbs my creative juices and while the synths are warming up I clean the room.
But I am nowhere near the cleaness of your room =)

Yeah, the xkey is nice because it's so slim. I see you are also a fan of small sized keyboards. That mouse pad looks sick with the led light around the edge. This is my second (or third) setup - I have a an actual studio full of gear that I never go into :/

I'm going to need to get some updated pictures up here soon. Blasphemous as it may be, I'm starting to very seriously consider a culling.
