Do I have to use a distribution service like TuneCore, DistroKit, Anti-Joy, LANDR or is it possible and better to do it directly my self?
I already have a Youtube channel but with no music videos (only sound).
I find the upload process to youtube cumbersome since I have to first convert my mp3's to video format (wich I don't need since I dont have any videos).
Also I can't seem to upload edits or change the order my tracks on youtube without creating a playlist.
Any tips and reccomendations on wich platforms I should be on and what distribution platform I should be on is greatly apreciated.
My fist goal as a completly unknown is to get on the radar and if there is interest hopefully get revenue.
- yes you have to go via an aggregator. Aside from the "big" players, there's hundreds of smaller streamers and distribution platforms, that's before you get to stuff like Instagram - and most of them don't deal with individuals. Even indie labels use aggregators of various kinds.
- I personally feel service etc is about on par between all of them. What I'd suggest is you go for someone who lets you pay one fee, and then your release is up. Some try to do subscriptions - pay $50 and release as much as you like - which is great, until you realise you're basically stuck paying them $50 a year for life if you want your music to remain online.
- I personally use CDBaby for anything self-releasing, but there's other options. I just feel a one-off $30 fee or whatever it is per release to be worthwhile for peace of mind.
