I had several domains and server space for 2 decades, then I cancelled that since it was too expensive and I didnt need it anymore.

Now I need to register a new domain and webspace for a project and AAARRGH
what a fraudulent nightmare buisiness has this become.

I dont want to spent more than 1 Euro/ month on this. maximum.

I will not have much traffic, all I need is a static site either plain html or the most basic cms.
An email service. I dont care much about what tdl its registered at though ideally its .net.

Where ever I look they have a confusing number of plans with a confusing number of autoupgrades and a confusing number of hidden costs like 4 Euro for 6 months then only 12 per month, free domain in the first 3 months then only 3 or 66 euro per month depending on what you clicked. Always only a single mail adress. Sure you can upgrade to business pro admin plan for only 29 month and set up another email.

I dont need any of this. I need transparent cost, minimal effort, minmal specs.

Certainly I do not under no circumstances want to be bothered by an AI driven web site builder.

I just need a page under a specific url/ domain with a short text and a link to a dedicated email linked to that domain. possibly a mailing list, too. I am willing to spend up to 1 Euro per month for that.

I remembered and found Steady HQ. Its a publishing service, a bit like Meedium, but seems more environmental and user friendly. Hosted in Europe it seems.

Its good for publishing texts, for journalists, for magazines and the like.

Quite what I was looking for, very simple to set up.
You can create support plans and have both open and paid for content, etc.
Its free and they keep their share of your subscriptions if you have any.

I decided for a non-public page for now though, that means its not listed and promoted by them, you need to know the URL.

no worries - its not that kind of enterprise.
The site basically serves as a telefone book entry, sketchbook, mood board and placeholder, mark stone and foot in the door. Rabbit hole and honey pot, too. Private business card. Mirrors and smoke cabaret.
Many very serious businesses including multi-multi-million enterprises have websites that only serve a telephonebook entry purpose btw, you might be surprised.
I knew a leading top 5 company in telco business where you could not even figure out who the ceo and cto were or what the company actually did from their website. On purpose.
I know a well funded AI startup that does not have an official public website nor does the $$ $$$ $$$ holding company that owns them. They stay in the dark on purpose. You find them via Google only if you know what to look for.
Like these CIA shadow companies that reside as black mailboxes in dead end streets in industrial areas or anonymous business houses.
Other than such companies however I dont even necessarily need the actual domain registered at this point.
I would register it if things and plans werent that messed up these days, but dont really need that atm.
The name is trademarked anyways btw.
It might at one point point to another place in the net though or be replaced by that.
Like a store, or a branded image page.
But thats not needed at the moment. I just needed it quickly, to meet a legal requirement.

For some start ups ( not for me here though) this kind of appearance is also a signal to investors:
we are doing serious business, things are moving fast, we are hot, dont have time for building a pretentious website.
Cause anybody and their janitor can run a sleek looking business website these days, you can click it in 30 minutes. Only non-serious posers focus on such things first. Childs play.

I just noticed how a similar thing is going on with laptop models.
Its pretty hard to research if a given model runs smooth with Linux and has all drivers available, for instance, cause "they" put similar named models ( and processors) on the market all the time, with totally different components. So the summer model xyz-1 has an AMD processor and the winter model xyz-3Xtr4 has an Intel processor and a different GPU and a cheaper display, ect.
Not to mention the xyz-2b and the xyz-3Xtr4Fdup-5, ect.
