I’ve used Mac for a million years. I had to move to pc for work. Got a very fast, comparable to a Mac Studio but in a laptop format as I thought I was going to be doing a lot of in person work but that’s a different story…

It just sucks. I loaded pro tools 12 on it and just is all clunky, clicks and pops as well. Just about everything is clunky on it music wise.

I literally ran a Mac Pro 3,1 for a million years. All I would get besides some random pro tools pop up errors was when I ran out of processing power. I got a uad octo to boot. Everything in regards to that is pretty messy too…. I sold some gear and got a small Apollo solo as they had a tremendous deal on Uad ultimate. Then got the octo….

But let’s start with pro tools. It’s awful. I decided… hey let me do studio monthly and see how it goes. The newest version of pro tools has multithreading, I should be destroying anything I throw at it. I’m getting clicks and pops, freezing up, dumb stuff which might be my part from opening old sessions, it’s trying to sync to something and won’t let me playback now either lol ! Am I really going to go back to my Mac Pro 3,1 ? I don’t think so. What I need is help and I’ve had about my fill…. Getting pro tools 12 fully deleted so studio would even load was dumb…. The interface on windows compared to Mac is dumb…. I can’t even do dual motors without it feeling dumb. Transport looks dumb…. It’s like I’m on windows 7 or something. I wouldn’t care if it all worked but it’s not working too well and I’m not sure where to start.

I’m looking into the possibilities of doing a dual boot system. That “should” get me what I need.

I bought this computer thinking, best of both worlds… but… I should have just bought a PC laptop and a low level mac Studio for relatively the same price. But then again I thought this job was going to be a little different when I purchased so going to try and make the best of it first.

Honestly, PCs can be wonderful and absolutely sickeningly fast/efficient. I feel like Avid's integration of Pro Tools on Windows leaves a lot to be desired. When working on PC I prefer Reaper by a large margin. It actually became my main DAW - I rarely use Mac nowadays but when I do, its also running Reaper

the mac pro 3,1 is really old now! you should seriously consider getting a mac pro 6,1 because they are an absolute steal/bargain, it might surprise you.
