SM27 -vs- SM7
I have a few questions for those who would be of any help on this topic....
I use SM27 for vocals (hip hop vocals/ r&b), with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which is connected via usb to my Dell Inspiron Windows Laptop. My studio is about 10ft by 12ft. I have a small area in the back of the room where I record my vocals. Room is acoustically treated...as well as recording area. My DAW of choice is Reaper. So thats what I make my music with. Everything sounds pretty good. The vocals are okay but could be alot better..Ive heard alot of hype about the SM7/SM7b...
Questions:
#1) Whats the difference between the SM27 and SM7/SM7b?
#2)Whats the difference in SM7 and SM7b?
#3)Would the Cloudlifter CL-1 have enough gain to push the SM7b?( the scarlett2i4 has about 55db of gain. The CL-1 adds 24-25db and supposedly it adds ultra clean gain, no noisy deffects. So that would be about 80db of gain.
Would that do the job? Is that enough gain for clean gain or no?
#4)Which of the two mics would produce the better quality sound for my
purpose? SM27 or SM7b?
#5)Is there a better quality mic for my purpose of use in that price range. Now, remember the SM7b is about $350 and the CL-1 is around $150. So if I made this happen, it'd cost around $500 give or take. So is there a mic in the $450-$500 price range that would be of better quality than the SM7b?
#6)This is kind of going off subject a lil bit but here it goes...
The 2i4 isn't bad and does okay but I was wondering. If I bought a preamp in the $300-$400 price range, could I connect it to the 2i4 and recieve better sound quality? If so, how would I do that?
I have more questions but this is my situation at the moment.
ANY advise or knowledge would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks.
