I didn’t mean to suggest that the direction you suggested would cause financial or audio disaster. The Audient, by all accounts, has a better-sounding preamp than the Scarlett.
BUT... The mic the OP has, the Shure PGA 27, is a bottom-of-the-brand INSTRUMENT MIC. Try to even find a serious review of that mic. A $90 Senn 835 would be an marked upgrade to that mic on any source.
So I didn’t like the priorities, but I do seriously expect that he will benefit from the Audient, and the expense isn’t so great that a new mic will be impossible.
