No really, I would say you won't really benefit from "upgrading" your interface. The budget Focusrite stuff is capable of quite good sound quality.

Honestly even the mic upgrade may not provide much of an improvement.

Is there something that is actually bothering you about your current setup beside the fact that there is some more expensive gear out there that you could buy?

Well, considering Scarlet is the entry-level interface in the line-up (and I’ve heard lots of it, as well as the Clarett and many other interfaces) I’d say definitely yes you can get a noticeable difference from an interface with better preamps and conversion. Maybe not night-and-day, but noticeable enough to hear immediately.

So if you sell the Scarlett on the used market and buy a better interface with no un-necessary features, you’ve effectively improved your sound for very little money. Babyface Pro wouldn’t be the ticket IMO. Amazing interface no doubt, overkill on the features side (for you) and price.

Audient ID4 has just one preamp and most who have used both extensively would say it sounds much better than Scarlett. Audient tries to sell the analog flavour/sound as part of the appeal, unlike Scarlett and Babyface. To my ears, it’s the all-sound, no-features entry-level interface.
The weak point are its drivers, but those are not terrible either.

Could be. It’s a net account change of under $150. I guess the OP can weigh-in once it arrives and has had a chance to use it.

I didn’t mean to suggest that the direction you suggested would cause financial or audio disaster. The Audient, by all accounts, has a better-sounding preamp than the Scarlett.
BUT... The mic the OP has, the Shure PGA 27, is a bottom-of-the-brand INSTRUMENT MIC. Try to even find a serious review of that mic. A $90 Senn 835 would be an marked upgrade to that mic on any source.
So I didn’t like the priorities, but I do seriously expect that he will benefit from the Audient, and the expense isn’t so great that a new mic will be impossible.

How are you for room treatment? For me, the main thing that makes a youtube video/podcast sound 'cheap' is an unpleasant room sound.

I would upgrade to a MOTU audio interface. Its almost the same as the RME, but cheaper. Big bang for your buck. As far as a mic, that is a personnel choice, Try a few and see what you liek

I'll look into MOTU. Thank you. I have researched a lot of microphones and I have found one I think I'm happy to settle with. I've not pulled the trigger yet.

I wish you the best. I only know the Audient and the Shure KSM44a by reputation, but there isn’t any significant negative chatter about either. For future addition of a hardware compressor, you might want to look at a high-quality interface with an insert.
I have avoided needing an interface with an insert by going mic>outboard preamp>outboard compressor>interface line in, but either route works.q
