Logic was my favourite DAW for music production, however for the last few years I have completely concentrated affords on mixing/mastering in PT and SS respectively.
I am going to get back into producing electro house/complextro in the near future so looking for a DAW with excellent MIDI and Audio features. I have been somewhat disappointed in what i've read about Logic X (no ADC for automation/graphics, limited audio features), and Cubase seems to have developed extensively since I last used it (version 5).
I use a Mac 12 Cores, 32-Bit RAM on Maverick, I have heard mixed reviews about Cubase's performance on Macs, although some of these posts are off a while back!

What do you recommend?
Go buy an eLicenser and try Cubase yourself. But be prepared for a solid transition. Workflow-wise, Cubase is very different than Logic or PT. Don't know what SS is. Only you know how you like to work.
I guess I'm like everybody. A long time ago when I tried the different programs to settle on one, Logic was the one I felt at home within an hour or so. Everything was in its right place and editing was done the RIGHT WAY... for me. Quite personal, and you just feel it when working in the software.

Cheers for advice mate, yeah I do like the workflow of Logic, the two biggest put offs I had with Cubase 5 were the MIDI Editor didn't have a shortcut toggle, and the sidechain was laborious to set-up. SS is Sonic Solutions.

You can't go wrong either way. Cubase 8 is right around the corner, I'm extremely excited about it though...

To keep things clear, what do you mean to when you refer to the "midi editor" and it's "shortcut togle?"
Yes side chain was laborious, and with C6 that changed.
Keep in mind you don't need to purchase a dongle if you want to check out the slightly striped down version of Cubase7.5.
The shortcut for the MIDI editor only opened it, i'm sure that has been changed to toggle on/off now? Good news on the sidechain!
I already have an elicenser dongle for other products, i'm guessing that will work fine for Cubase.
Do you mean the key editor? The editor that shows the piano roll? Yes using KC's you can open and close them. However to close you might need a separate KC. (im out of town at the moment)
There are some windows however that you still can't close. History window for example. The only way I have discovered to close that is by using Windows key command Ctr+W.
Yes agreed, I think when it's a typical day at the office and ready to get down to work, it's the PC look. When I got a hot date have to impress and need some style, it's the "I"mac flashy look.heh
And PT 10.3.9 keeps crashing for no apparent reason and 10.3.7. never did!
PT 11 does nothing for me either.
Cubase still wins hands down for editing and routing in my book.
It just seems a little clunky still.I don't like the way the new mix window works completely yet.It needs an easier way to scroll thru sends, inserts etc.

For me the biggest achille's heel of Cubase has always been the mixer. I have never liked it and I much prefer what Logic has. Hopefully in the future the mixer will be better and then I can seriously consider switching
agree a little bit about the mixer... it feels a little flimsy compared to logic's which I would prefer. But there's other stuff that weighs more to tip me more towards the good old C
I use C7.5 on PC but do like the MAC look - Cleaner borderless windows
it's not the borders it's just for some reason Cubase can't use the OS's borders so for example despite having narrow grey windows borders in all other programs etc in Cubase the borders are thick and light blue.
I just pick up a 4 gen iPad so I tried Logic remote for the first time and I must say that it's awesome!!! I haven't done much with it but it allows much quicker punch ins than using the mouse or keyboard.
I'm going to be testing it out for a few days to see how things go.
While demoing Cubase(on OSX), I ended up writing a track with it. It was mostly Diva and at certain part the cpu kept peaking and I got crackles. I even ended up raising the buffer but I still received those crackles and freezing. When I later transferred the project to Logic, I didnt get similar peaks and CPU meter was just fine. Maybe it is just me, but for me the Cubase on OSX did not seem that cpu effective.
