Which news was that? The only new thing I've seen from Apple about Logic lately is this page:

And it will get worse. Avid just got sold off M-Audio and its consumer end and its management announced that the company is focusing more strongly on maintaining 50+% margins by focusing on the pro sector. That means more, regular, costly upgrades, and more subscriptions. At least Apple and Ableton add features like 64-bit for free and don't make a big deal out of it.

Apple could afford to give away logic with every new computer the sell !

Yea, that's the one... dated July 3rd. Right between "It Costs Just $1.36 a Year to Charge an iPad" and "Apple Reports Third Quarter Results". Seems Apple finds it as news enough to stuff in there.

I could be wrong, but I wouldn't release any news of Logic if I were silently (or other) trying to phase it out.

It's worth it for the software. The macs worth it for being a mac.

Blood sucking leaches. quality added I reckon.........as I look at 3 pc's which have been sitting for years that I can't seem to through in the garbage.

I do think however there should be an extension on the apple care. Scary stuff.. (as not to jinx myself).

You already get iCal, iMovie, iPhoto, Garageband ... and quality OS. That's a lot. Look at it this way too: if the Pro apps were free they would be a cost center not a profit center and Apple would have less inclination to develop or support as much they do. $199 is a very fair price for everything in Logic, I think -- and I don't even USE Logic!

Well, as a Mac user who only uses the machine for one specific, corporate purpose you're probably in a category with 0.09% of Apple's customers. But good thing you can write off that $199 as a business expense.

Well, I wouldn't quite go that far (perhaps except for waves :-) )

Logic does have some killer plugs that come with it. The compressor and EQ are pretty top notch (so are PT's EQ7 and Dyn3). But Logic comes with some useful cool extras like the Enveloper (whatever it's called) - not quite as sweet as SPL's Transient Designer (which I believe is made by Brainworx by the way ;-) ) but it is still great if you do not have the TD.

Posted it. Got slammed for a few years and forgot about it. Then poof. FCP-X. Would not be surprised. If they can fine tune orchestral samples like a combo of Symphobia and VSL like on the iPad that would be dope. Plus I read there is a new arranger program that takes your melody and arranges it for you. Like the pros do. Have seen many bang out melodies on piano, give it to arranger and go from there. Also heard new Mac pro 24 cores on 1 dye. So 24 and 48 here we come. HD should go way down. Things like Apollo and UAD may be needed for Lapps but not desk tops. Speaking of which, best books, videos for mixing/mastering waves. Like it better except a few plugs. Ala phat Boy, et-cetera.

Then 8 and 16 on iMacs. Why the 2.4.6.12, when for years, 2:4:8:16:32:64:128:256:512:1024, makes you think intel should go back to drawing board and focus on 16:32. My internets almost 10MB a second. Only a few more years where Mbox should handle unlimited tracks (another comment I made that while Avids subdivision was trying with maudio, that they would one day release an OS that would work on many
Daws. Increased track count. Ect. So logic x is the next logical state. This Mbox dude I know is a full time foley guy and uses an Mbox One and works on TV full time and I scored my 1st trailer using a $99 dollar sound card. So it all relevant to how well you know your daw and craft. That's why if you're just starting out that it's sometimes cool to get a daw that has a lot of books (although I'm a movie man myself) use logic/PT the most. I use to use NUENDO and while there is not a lot of teaching materials foothold for Ableton Live, it's a great program for sound design and while 99 % of us normally never have to open a getting started guide. It's always nice to know that you can watch someone explain how to properly use the spectrum analyzer and play before and after demos. WOW. WAY OFF TRACK. SORRY!!! I SAY YES SOMETHING SOPHISTICATED yet very easy to use is coming. I just hope they really focus on ease of use for any/many keyboards, and the samples.

At $199 they practically do.

They give a free copy of Garageband with every computer they sell, which while not as featureful as Logic is still pretty good and much easier to use for a consumer, imo. What would someone with no interest in music do with a full blown DAW on their machine?

I tried looking for LP at 199 for a friend.

I don't think they offer it anymore.

Just the studio at 499.
