Also the thing about a little bit of latency is that you can adjust to it if its small. Anything up to about 10ms is playable. Not the end of the world.

Listen, I can't help the fact that you are arguing latency points that just aren't correct. I'm really trying to be helpful there.

With regards to Logic.

I am a long time Logic user. I am currently running PtHD. My opinion is as valid as anyone's on that.

It is however, plain as day, that Apple is not focussed on improving Logic. Maybe now that PT11 is causing a stir Apple will be forced to respond, however, only being reactive is not a good way to go about supporting Pro apps now is it?

I would say that in a live situation, yes that is common, but certainly not in headphones in a studio. No way.

Well I think it's obvious that apple isn't focusing on pro studios but on home and project studios and to musicians. Logic is great for musicians to use to write songs and arrangements.

Pt might be more pro. I don't care, not an engineer.

I'm an engineer and have been using Logic for 15 years as well as Pro Tools and they both get the job done. Some people just like to Troll forums. So don't mind him

I have watched on the side lines over the last few years as Avid clumsily reconfigured, restructured and updated both itself and Pro Tools - it was painful to observe, and I was only a mere onlooker...

I watched as they shafted entry level musicians and producers with crappy features and convoluted, arcane work-arounds and costly add- ons, to eek better performance from their systems. I watched as they polarised and actively seperated their VIP users from their 'common man' users, fostering a divisive 'them-and-us' relationship.
Then I watched Avid shaft their VIP users... And now I see them shafting CPTK users. All in the name of progress? - and long overdue progress at that.

I'm still not sure I want to give Avid my hard-earned... because I would be interested in HD native with all the bells and whistles. It would set me back £4-5k and I'm not too sure Avid would not pull some greedy assed upgrade stunt with me a year down the line...

Anyways - to bring this back to Logic Pro, I actually think it is way cheaper than it should be - folks have all got used to it at that price and familiarity breeds contempt. It is ridiculous what excellence it delivers for £300, it's just silly.

I am very optimistic that Apple will deliver with Logic, users just have to be patient, and as I said before, we should thank Apple for helping make Avid step-up because a decent Pro Tools rig is now within the reach of 'Everyman', and that means they can own and use both - because each has its strengths and weaknesses.

Ok folks, I'll chime in. Everything has propagation delay (the time it takes to do its job), including analog equipment.
There is no such thing as zero delay - it takes electrons a certain amount of time to pass thru a wire (albeit very small).
That being said, comparing snare samples delayed is not a good test of delay because of reference. I would wager a substantial amount of money that if I was to play an actual snare and delay it for one millisecond the delay would be imperceivable. My 0
O2R96 has a 1 millisecond delay from input to output at 96k, is that unacceptable? Not for me. I run logic at a 128 buffer and have no complaints when monitoring thru software.
If you find a millisecond delay too high good luck!

You know if a drummer hits their drum 10 feet away from you, it takes about 8 msecs for the sound to hit your ear drum.

This thinking is floored, electronic delay is a completely different unnatural delay when compared to the sound passing through air emanating from objects we can see and perceive in real space.

I earn't my living through my 20's as a session drummer and only ever played real acoustic drums, I had a BIG kit and a great feel may I add :-)

Playing today electronic drums with a delay = to the ms generated by the size on my old acoustic kit following this theory of "sound in air = 1ms per foot" I do not have a pleasurable experience at all, electronic drums feel like playing in custard to me.

I just think standards have changed these days regarding what's acceptable in the name of convenience.

have to admit i was a SW monitoring guy ,I spent years recording vocals playing bass/guitar using virtual amps via a DAW ....
Until i got my bass amp back from the longest loan ever .. hooked it up and started jamming and i was like hey this feels so much better ,more from the pov of relating to the amp as a player thats how i know the sound....recording parts became a whole lot easier ,so i have a guitar amp now as well ,both are hooked up to DI boxes ,I have set up a little analogue loop for the mic on my mackie big knob
It's just something I don't have to think about anymore
vocalists, session players who come around feel it's a lot better ,and i defo get better quality performances no doubt
regardless how good sw monitoring gets I'll never go back to it ..

I've got all my muso's friends back onto analog monitoring, and they too say they'll never go back to SW monitoring.

I know it's insane - and what's even more is that these folks really believe that they are 100% correct

There is no recording without a reference point. A snare doesn't get recorded by itself.

Wow. what part about monitoring playback is it that you guys don't get? This is NOT about playing the drums in room with no monitoring or playback. This is about the recording process.
