I have an M1 Mac Studio with an RME Fireface UFX2.
I’ve used hardware inserts many times in the past. Typically it’s the same settings I’ve grown accustomed to when tracking. I would always bounce the idea if need be and adjust the time to match the original take.

I’ve now started or tried to at least use a hardware insert on the mixbus.

Every time I turn on my computer even with the same project it pings a different number. Typically it is around 2269ms, which seems like a lot. I then adjust my recording delay to compensate, but delay is always there in my speakers. My buffer is set to 32.

How do people use inserts on the mixbus to mix into without delay issues?

Recording delay and the ping in the I/O are two different functions.

the I/O ping does an actual measurement to time align the out going signal to the incoming signal within the I/O plugin. If you want to test its accuracy, set the mix level to 50% in the I/o plugin - you shouldn't hear any phasing. Don't change the record delay based on this.
If you bounce in place and the timing is off, then something is wrong.

The record delay (in logic settings) lets you manual offset an incoming recording signal. If you know there's a disparity between the reported latency and the actual latency, and you know how much that is, you can adjust for it there. General advice is you should just leave that at zero. If you change it, anything you record will be moved forward or backward once it's recorded.
I don't think you will hear the offset when tracking, only on playback.

So without touching the record delay, and adjusting the volume to 50%, there still seems to be a tight slapback delay. I’m even trying this with only one stereo track.

One thing that can throw off the ping is distortion. Not sure what you are running through but I've found a compressor that's distorting a bit, or definitely a saturator will cause that.

If the unit has a bypass, do the ping in bypass and then re-engage or patch a straight loop back from out to in, ping and then re-patch the hardware.

See if that does anything.
If the result is the same then it might be a problem with the ping function itself.

Ever since I moved my stuff to the basement latency has been an issue. I cannot play through an amp sim, even though my buffer is set to 32 and I have low latency on.The sound is delayed so much that it is uncomfortable to play and I don't know why. It wasn't like this before.

So going from outs directly back into inputs, and set-to 50% dry/wet it sounds useable (maybe) almost like there is a little reverb halo. At 100% it sounds like a snapback and the ping doesn't solve anything. When adding outboard back in the slapback sound gets more pronounced and it isn't usable even at 50% wet/dry.

I thought one could run their wet at 100% in order to get the full effect of their outboard gear?

I think I am going to try and update/reinstall logic and my rme drivers.

Removing Sound Source helped a lot. Even having Sound Sources latency on the lowest setting was causing snapback issues. Now with sound source removed the ping helps, but it still sounds phasey.
If I put my output as 0db and my input at -12 I get decent results, but that isn't helpful.

Its working. I bypassed RME's Totalmix and put it into DAW mode and now it works like the way it should.
