Please recommend a compressor for Live Vocal applications. Style of mustc varies. The microphone will almost always be an SM58, the vocalists will vary from too soft & mumbly to Screamer, sometimes Male, sometimes Female, sometimes ?
Right now I have a Black Lion modified Alesis 3630 & Im liking it better than the house's un modded 3630, but I would like more, better, nicer, but still on a budget. Stereo would be nice too, but not a requirement.

I've been using the FMR RNC in "supernice" mode for live vocals. I'm sure there's better out there, but it's doing the trick for me.

man - i can't remember which comp it was, but i caught a friend on tour running sound for a fairly popular band and he showed me his compression rack. he had these fairly inexpensive multiband comps - i think they were stereo and 1 rack space - that worked great.

he used them on guitars and vocals - and the cool thing was that he would set the mid band to the 2k - 4k range on both, so when the tube screamers came on or the vocalist started wailing, it would push down the harshness in that area of the midrange but keep the top and bottom pretty balanced and clear.

seemed like a damn good idea to me at the time.

DBX 160x,xt or A.It's been a standard for a long time.Much better than an Alesis which in my opinion is one step away from useless.Used around 225.00 250.00.

DBX 160a is great for live!
