Pyramix on new Apple silicon
I’ll ask this question on the Merging forum as well, but thought I’d start a thread here.
I have to upgrade my MacBook Pro soon (mine is from 2013), and although I have a dedicated Thinkpad for Pyramix, I thought I’d get a 16” MacBook this time and set it up for PMX under bootcamp as a backup.
All the discussion now seems to indicate that bootcamp will no longer be possible on the new Apple chips for obvious reasons. It seems that most users that require this kind of functionality will use virtualization software. That will work fine for many apps, but not likely to work for DAWs.
Based on what I’m reading, it seems like PMX will no longer work on the MacBook Pro, once they switch to the new Apple chips, and that if you want bootcamp functionality, you’d better go with the last of the 16” MacBook Pros. The downside is that I doubt that any Intel MacBook is going to have the same 7 year+ lifespan that I’ve gotten out of my current machine because in the next few years everything will be moving to the new chips, and support for the old Intel-based architecture will wane.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?
