It also depends on the internal processing, especially the master buss.

I wonder if the software: EQ/dyn. - Is ported from the Midas digi consoles as well?

It's not in any of the publicity material I have seen so far.

All I can see is that it uses the Midas/KT/ AES-50 protocol for digital stage box.

I read on a forum that they indeed were the same preamps from someone who had had a test run unit ( can't find the source now as I scoured the web for info on this unit a whole lot in the last couple of weeks, but in was not in english anyways ). That person said that the preamps sounded much better than anything previous from Behringer and that upon inspection ( checking the insides of the console ) they were the same as some Midas board ( can't say which one, my memory isn't that good and I really don't know much about Midas consoles so it didn't stick )... But all in all, the pres are not all that important if everything that comes afterwards is crap. But I doubt it in this case...

The preamp OP itself can still be the same. The surrounding circuit is where the difference is made. How many preamps share the same OP and sound radicallly different ? Tons ! Being a test run the guy saw, maybe the preamp inside was not the production one. Can't know for sure. J. Oakley said "original Midas preamps", but the general conception and components can ( and it seems to be so ) have a strong inspiration, down to component choice without being clones and still sound extremely close, or radically different for that matter.

Wow!! I found this article looking at other digital mixers. I still have a DDX3216, and it was quite usable. In fact for the money it was unbelievably good, however it really was pretty dirt cheap lol. Anywho I was in a band that had several pieces of their gear. And it was always hit or miss on what was usable and what wasn't. We had some ultramaximizer thing that hurt way more than it helped. However I liked the digital EQ's okay. Nothing spectacular either but usable. But I must admit if this new board is a step up from the DDX3216 sound wise I'm sold. I can tell feature wise it's in a new league. Just please let it sound good too.

Too Funny, I was standing right behind the camera guy as this was being shot. They had this unit under plexiglass during the show so I just happened to be walking by when they finally uncovered it. The mixer looked very well thought out with some awesome features

I asked them when it would be ready and they told me this wont be on the market until Q3 or Q4 2011

I thought Behringer had a couple of the coolest things I saw at the show. The first being this mixer and the second being thir personal monitoring system which you could demo.

The personal monitoring system is going to be a huge hit IMO. It has more features than the Aviom setup for a FRACTION of the cost. I think the distribution hub was something like $250 and each of the mixers was $200

You could buy doubles of everything if you are concerened about QC and SILL be ahead of the cost on an Aviom system.

What about the Midas pre's in the Venice F32 desk?

Seems like a great small budget (Digi-Log) analog/digital hybrid desk with third party plug-ins and recording capabilities.

I wish more manufactures designed hybrid desks that can serve the digital world with with an analog mindset.

I mean, analog desks do help with latency issues and sound (IMO) much better than digital to boot.

The X-32 is not a veniceF. The companies manufacturing and selling them might belong to the same corporate identity, but that does not make them remotely the same.

There was a claim made about the X32 using a midas pre, about which I asked for clarification, which was not provided.

If the venice F sounds good, and I have no reason to believe it doesn't, then it's probably not down the preamp anyway...not if it's working right (impulse/frequency/amplitude/phase response).

But they do have a reputation for a certain 'sound'. No idea why, and I have used plenty of midas, from the old venice up to the heritage and pro series. It should 'sound' exactly like I tell it to sound, given the preamp operating in its linear region and what I do with the EQ. Now, a heritage EQ is a wonderful thing...

Who said that? Behringer has not said that.

I don't like hybrids from a sales, integration or engineering position. All of these consoles take short cuts, only work with specific sample rates and bit depths. Most do not have word clock I/O. These consoles are headed for support hell and obsolescence quicker than discrete components. I would rather have a rock solid analog console and then pick my A/D front end, which will change more with the times than the console itself.

But how deep it is integrated to a daw, like moving faders or so -offering the recording?

There is an additional option for multitrack recording. They have not set a price on it yet, AFAIK. You will be able to record to the USB drive, like you can on the Roland, Allen and Heath and one or two of the Yamaha live consoles. The Behringer X32 is a live console with recording features/options. It is not a recording console with DAW control. Behringer was going after the Presonus and Yamaha consoles when they came up with this.

While there is shared digital technology, there are no Midas preamps or anything like that from what we have been told. This is not a cheap Midas, and you will never hear the company pimp it like that. They are trying to change the way people percieve Behringer. It's going to take a long time IMO. But, it can be done. All they have to do is not sell crap, support their dealers and customers, etc. It is easy to make gear. It is not easy to have it last and keep customers happy.

Someone who had a test run unit did on another forum about 8 weeks ago. Since I can't retrieve the post, I think he probably removed this statement.

On the other hand, as I said before, change a couple of components and they'll sound vastly different, or very similar depending on what you change and what you change it for. As long as they sound clear and clean, it's all good in my book.

Should be getting my hands on one of these pretty soon..... will keep you posted on how good it is and if they are any faults.... it looks very very smart.... if only they made the logo a tiny bit smaller?! would also like to see how it compares to the soundcraft Si series mixers... compact digital very similar but like 8 thousand pound difference hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I was considering the presonus studio live or the phonic summit but this has me doing double takes. Seems like a great live on the the go mixer and a ton of functionality.I think I'll wait til this thing hits the market and decide at that time. Maybe presonus or phonic or yamaha will ante up?

Now, why can't someone design a portable desk like this with the highest quality components and such?

I'd pay serious money for a mixer like that.

Perhaps Dave Hill can create the super duper Crane Song preamp/mixer/recorder Spider device of love.

A core of at least 24 channels of sweetness would be tremendous.
