ORTF at drum overhead

Just a simple question. Do you use it at let's say 90 degrees instead of 110? Or everybody strictly use it as the standard said 110 degrees 17cm apart (capsules).

Start at 110 degrees and move the array around until you get the basic picture you are looking for.

Then adjust the degree spread to dial in the desired amount of stereo separation, if necessary.

Depends on the mics, cardioid, super or hyper. I prefer ORTF a little closer to the drums or DIN (90 deg 20cm) a little further away.

I like it exactly the way it is defined. Very good compromise between (the too wide) AB and (the too narro) X/Y.

Before you change the angle, try moving the overheads up and down to hear what that does.
