Note sure if this is possible and hoping if it is someone can direct me to the solution.

I'm going through some old projects that have various parts I want to export and then import into a new project.

I want to be able to source individual midi tracks from various projects.

I want to then import them into a new project with :

Original vst and patch recalled.
Any inserts used on the audio channel of the midi channel (currently manually saving chain preset).
Midi note/data.

Currently I am dragging a the midi to the new project, noting the patch used, loading the vst, selecting the patch and then loading the insert chain.

So my current workflow is a little convoluted, but is working.

But what I would like to do is have an array of midi parts that I can then drop in (even preview) to see how they fit in to the new track.

Hope someone understands what I am trying to do may even come up with something different.

The problem is that a midi track is not tied to a specific instrument as far as Cubase is concerned.

If you used instrument tracks in your original projects you could just "save track archive" and load these to new projects....but if you have midi tracks separate from instruments in the rack I think you have to do it as you have been.

Save as 'midiloops'.

I was wondering what purpose the XML track export (not rtfm on this).

Shame be great if you could export midi tracks as a whole snapshot, almost creating a modular workflow (guess this is the best way of describing what I had in mind).

Exporting midiloops if fine, but doesn't know what instrument/plugin/patch and other settings was used, I dont believe. Simply dragging and drop from an non active to active project is serving the same prupose.

No biggy, jsut wondering if I could find an easier method

Yes, 'midiloops' are instrument and patch specific. It's a weird convention of Steinberg to use such a label...since they're more than loops, and more than just midi files.
