Not sure what to mic to get. I need to know which is the best option. If you know of more under $1,000, let me know please.
1. AKG C 414 XL II
2. TLM 103
3. ST 6050
4. Blue Dragonfly
5. TLM 102
I plan on using with with ProTools 9 with the 8x8 Mbox hooked up to an ISA One Preamp. If there any other preamps that are good for under $800, let me know.
Great River ME 1NV, Universal Audio 610, Daking Mic Pre One, Dav BG1, Focusrite ISA Two.
His advice is excellent.
I would go with a C414. It is a very versatile mic. You can use it for multiple purposes. The Shure and AT are fantastic too. Any of the preamps will be fine. You may also consider a single channel Hardy (used).

Of these mics, I would get the 102, a very natural sounding microphone, IMHO. I have not heard an ST 6050, but prefer the 102 on most sources to the others listed. A microphone that punches far above its size and price, especially on the used market, IMHO.
Here's another vote for the TLM 102. I have one and can use it on anything. One of my best purchases. A little dark and smokey with good room rejection. Wish I had two!
I've recorded Hip Hop some and the MA200 and MA201fet sound great. The MA200 is very warm and bright, the MA201fet is a little more direct in a good way. Those are both in your price range. The Grace M101 is a really nice pre for around $700.

This is a good description of this mic. I also find it "dark and smokey".
It is a sleeper. Totally worth it.
