Check out the listing on our site, I described what the sonic effects are. The HS80M is already a good speaker, I did not know what to expect as Bob continued to tweak and mod and put it up against a stock one. The dynamic range of the actual music is restored once the limiter is disabled, the low end is unrestrained as well. The "blur" is removed and the midrange has an exceptional separation and clarity. Transient material snaps sharper. The high end is more extended and fine detail is delivered, and the tone of the tweeter is transformed into a present but smooth sound.
The result sounds like an amp connected to a great pair of speakers, and not so "processed" like you hear with modern, active monitors. And yes it kills an NS10 up and down, no comparison.
yeah, that one. but please tell me how do you manage to disconnect the speaker cable connector? i tried to disassemble, but the cable is too short to have any room for even taking out the assembly out of the cabinet.
There are three connectors that are removable from the board, just pinch the clip and pull them out. There's a smaller two pin connector (possibly for the front light) that seems to be soldered to the board but has enough slack to work with.
Oh, there's also a cable tie on the corner of the board you can cut to gain more slack.
I wonder why having the limiter in the path makes so much difference in the sound.
Im ready to cut mine if that's the case.I never drive them that loud.
Do you just cut the jumper in half,is that all there is to it?
You can de-solder the jumper easy enough for a tidier look, just use some de-solder wick but prime the joints initially with some fresh solder. You could even install a switch if you prefer.
Cool thanks,i think i'll do it.I don't need no stinkin compression in my speakers,i got plenty of compressors already.
I think i'll just cut em in half though,if i can't see it,i don't care how it looks. That should do it right?

Would you post the results if you do it? I'm kinda tempted but i'll void the warranty if i do so it's gotta be worth it!

would not be so sure, I guess it depends on the threshold set, and whether it is transparent under the treshold level
That's what i mean. Funny that monitor manufacturers don't mention it in the specs, makes sense to protect the speaker though but i don't want it colouring the sound.
Or you could just have the switch inside if you wever feel like having it on.
Do one speaker at a time if you need convincing .
The jumper is very easy to remove (I would remove it so it won't be touching the metal at any chance), even with minor soldering skills.
I take it you've done it then? Yeah i'd go the soldering route so it can be reversed if need be should i sell them in the future or whatever. Now all i need is a soldering kit!
Just disabling the limiter on HS80m does not cut it for me at reasonable levels at least. Have done it today.
EDIT Although at higher levels the lows seem to be more dynamic.

That is GREAT just by being more dynamic.... I'd love that.
Some folk want greatness after disabling a Limiter. Warren does more than that, and that makes it a legitment mod!!
The limiter being disabled has an effect at all volumes, but its more noticeable at louder levels. The dynamic range is true, and bass response more open and unrestrained.

I just want a truer bass response and it sounds like that is what is achieved here.
