speaker outputs - why so warm sounding?

hello gs.

Does anyone know why speaker outputs often tend to have "warmer" "rounder" and "fatter" sonic characteristics than their preamp out counterparts? In not all of my units, but in some the speaker outs are full of character, where the preamp outs pale in comparison.

why is this? would anyone here care to explain the cause of this?

Different amplifier circuit. You don't say how you are hearing the outputs...

they are being heard going straight to daw. At a very low level mind you, so that the the interface or amp doesn't blow.

Don't run your speaker outputs into the line ins of a DAW. I learned that in high school. some kind of EQ in there!

Do you mean some console, or what?

It could be anything - from different output level (yes, louder is still better), to (in a console case) long chain of electronic components on a way thru mixbus to main outputs, which is kind of a lot of LPFs and subtle distortions accumulated.

Speaker outputs on what? Are you talking about a conventional power amplifier like those used to power your monitors in your studio or are you talking about a guitar amplifier?

The speaker outs on tape decks is far inferior to the line outs. It sounds different to make the speakers sound better, not for using in audio production.

Without knowing what "speaker outs" you're talking about, it's impossible to answer that question.

Most "speaker outs" are speaker level and would destroy any interface you plugged into. Multiple times hotter than any "preamp out".

Doesn't matter how low you set your line level gain. But who knows what you're actually doing, with what piece of gear?

So - the short answer is "they're not". At least when we're talking speaker LEVEL outs. But again, who knows what your "units" are?

I guess I'm going to have to start tracking those most obnoxious of trolls -- who ask people what seem like naive questions in order to to snare and entangle their victims -- and then drag the ensuing confusion out as long as possible.

I just don't like to divide up the world that way but it's clear that these people are dividing up the world that way, dragging people into pointless, time-wasting imbroglia that are not just insults to the victims but an assault on the community itself.

Everyone knows it's because more tubes! More tubes is warmer! My preamps only get to about 250°f. Those power amps tubes get up to 300°f. Touch that and Ya Burnt!
