Final mix through a preamp?

Is there anything to be gained by using a pair of my SCA N72 preamps in an insert on the master buss?

Will it help "sweeten up" the mix?

Why not try running it through a nice compressor and the preamps and try for yourself if it sounds better or not. You be the judge. Everyone is likely to give you a different opinion on here.

I haven't tried these particular preamps but have ran a mix or two with success through a Chandler pre. It did good for that particular track but isn't something that I normally do.

it can help
if you reamp every instrument, the groups and the master, the result is "better" imo
i really love the neve sound, haven´t tried the replica you mentioned, but i just read that they are great
comp54 would be a good addition imo and isn´t very expensive

I tried it with my N72's and API's once and wasn't blown away. I would suggest mixing through them instead of throwing them on at the end of the mix. When I tried it with my API's the mix radically changed and you could really hear them push the mid forward but at the time I didn't have the time to go back and remix.

I've done it a few times through my n72s, just for the heck of it and give the particular tracks a subtle different character. I like what it did, but it wasn't drastic.

Whoa!
Just stumbled on this thread.
I ran a bands' stereo mixes through a Chandler out of desperation.
I use a line to mic level pad of course.
The mixes were a little anemic.
Lead vocals and snare were way too low.
Out of the blue....magically...
Everything was fixed.
I thought to myself...."Self, this is a secret weapon!"
Tried the same trick on a couple other similar projects, and it didn't work at all.
Looking forward to trying through some other pre's though.
