I am willing to invest in one multiband comp to give it a try on busses or master.
I could get one of these 2 for almost same price.
I know the tubetech is tube and IGS is solid state. But apart from that have you had the occasion to compare these guys ?
I mix very different styles of music, from 70s hard rock to jazz, electro or folk.
Any inputs welcome.

I've never tried the IGS but I've had an SMC2B for close to 20 years. It's an amazing compressor. I usually combine it with other buss comps but it does this thing at 1.5:1 that is gorgeous. While it doesn't have a thick tubey sound, it does something very sweet in the mids. I've bought and sold a ton of stuff in the last 2 decades but the SMC2B is still in the rack.

I just found a MULTICORE at a reasonnable Price.
Will give some feedback in a few weeks if some folks here are interested

I keep taking a look at the Multicore every couple of months. I have the Tubecore and think it’s a fantastic compressor.

Seems like a good piece for solving issues like de-essing and when that’s not necessary, looks like 3 SSL compressor clones, so it should prove useful in many situations.

Any feedback?? This is on my short list of VCA comps. Probably will end up going with a Neve MBP, but I'm super curious to know what you think about the Multicore. I already have the Tubecore so I know IGS makes quality gear.

An interesting machine but I found ir too complicated for my use. I just wanted a master buss comp and I realise that a good vca with high pass on the threshold and a dry/wet was enough for me.
I think it is for more surgical use. Mastering for example. Not a one trick pony. A piece of gear that needs some time to get the best out of it.

Have had my IGS Multicore for two weeks now. I am absolutely in love with it. Super quick, super intuitive and got that VCA bite but is very smooth at the same time. I tend to go for 2:1 250-550 cutoff and 4:1 550 - 6K , 2:1 6K -> on mastering applications. I also have a Drawmer 1973(FET) and as good as that is, it's not in the same league. Had an SM2B for years in the studio next to mine and never got one as it had too much colour for me. This thing is good on everything, even as a shelving eq, the tops are silky. And the wet/dry option too. Can not recommend this enough.

Thanks for the report in! I wonder often if this would be a good companion to the Gyraf Infundibulum. Sometimes the Infundibulum is just the right thing, some problems aren’t handled by it, so I use MB Compression ITB via Multidynamics 5. Although, tbh, I use MD5 as an MB expander just as much as a MB compressor. I suppose the Maselec unit is really what I want if I’m going to move that ITB work OTB.

I have had the Multicore since January, and used to have an SMC 2B

I use the multicore in the mastering room, it`a become a regular piece of the chain.

It`s nice and fast and snappy, very precise, there`s only subtle colour unless you really push it. It really is like having an SSL buss comp in multiband. CLean, punchy precise but can get gritty if you push it.
Plenty of gain on each channel, metering is great.
It`s an exceedingly easy compressor to use, for anyone daunted by multiband, this thing will be super easy to get to grips with.
You can mute and bypass each band, so it`s very easy to before/after each band, and match gain.
The dry wet is great, you can really let the compressor get angry and do it`s thing and then dial back in some clean to get the best of both worlds.

I use it for all sorts, keeping top end in line for vinyl cuts, controlling the lows, adding snap to the mids, general dynamic control prior to limiting, or aggressive energetic and saturated to give a mix some life.

Solid build, looks pretty in rack, detented pots make recall easy. The price is surprisingly affordable for what you get.

I`ve been waiting for something like this for a long time.

The SMC is a great compressor too, but I found it a little too coloured, and not as snappy and punchy as I wanted for mastering duties.

I know that this is an old post but I was wondering since you have them both… does the 1973 still get used within your workflow or has the multi core completely replaced it? I’m thinking about getting a multi band compressor and these is a significant difference in cost between these 2. Is the cost difference in line with the difference in results ?
