The X1A is a good microphone but is so different from the 2200 or the X1S. I just wouldn't use it on voice. I see it as a valuable microphone for instruments but NOT on voice or spoken word.
I don't think it's the ideal microphone for ALL instruments. I wouldn't use it on electric guitars (I'd rather have the X1-R ribbon for that) or percussion (try the X1-D for that purpose).
I would recommend the 2200a, because of the transformer (the X1S is transformerless).
IMHO the transformer adds something to what is supposed to be an identical capsule. I often see the 2200a (slightly noisier than the current version) for around 100 EUR/USD. Which is usually less than a new X1-S.
I´m still got a X1T for a bit more than 100€ these days

And now when I read your statement Nicod, we have to make a comparisson between our existing SE mic collection
(2200t, X1, SE1A, X1T, H1/S2A capsule)
and how they perform for drums, mallets, woodwinds and mini3Dprinted digeridoo in our next rehearsel, where we could record 2channels more, via the Zoom H6 recorders line inputs with dedicated preamps, supplementary to the KFM360 like mic construction for the space recording, which fails a bit in accuracy and deepness, when it comes to low frequencys, recorded with two super cheap but quiet okay-good working
fame singlepro Omni electret sdc´s -38db out 15db self noise for the mid signal 30-15000hz

the NT2A -36db out for the side signal 120-20000hz are just working molto bene with the H6
