Warren comments on gear he never used (why comment?)
he works in a professional studio (nobody asked),
and when corrected about inaccurate information...
he doesn't click edit (he was asked to correct it),

The original "argument" was which company created the device (smpro),

I am an engineer by trade, not a "fanboy" because of your remarks.
I have tested SmPro & DBX 500 series, as well as dozens of gear since 1988.
In 2014 and 2015,
both were in the studio and i disassembled the units for a comparison (twice).
They sold after. See how I am talking about the units, the accuracy of information, and asking you to curb your ego about being corrected.
You literally tripled down on bashing the company that is NOW rebranded as dbx without saying a single thing about DBX being in many studios.

The reason I asked you to edit the post, is all your nonsense is off topic, littered with hyperbole and inexperience with ANY of these units. When users come for a read about DBX 500 series... we get the warren show.

Seems like you're a little confused about DBX. You seem to want to imply that SM PRO is somehow "equal" to DBX because DBX is the parent company and bought them out.
Even if DBX rebranded those units recently it still has no bearing what soever on all the "classic" dbx gear we've all come to know and love. Get it?

Its hard to know since apparently no one actually has one...I just bought a Sm Pro MBC502 on ebay as kind of a vanity purchase because the compressor design seems a little bit out of the ordinary...

When I get it, I'll open it up and see whats cooking inside.

From my initial research it appears that they have focused on a specific frequency crossover filter design that allows for very steep cut-offs and assembled 2 optical compressors around the filter...it is not a "dual" optical in the sense that it can do stereo, the compressors are inline with the filter crossover...so one compressor sits on the lower half of the curve and the other compressor sits on the upper band...you can "mute" each side which basically makes it function as a filter prior to the compressor...

So basically what you have is sort of a limited multiband compressor with only 2 bands basically...chosen by the center frequency...which is a kind of strange but seems creative enough...it uses a LME49720 opamp which is a bit dated but is still a decent low noise opamp...in other words its kind of "tilt + SSL-lite" compressor...probably not as smooth as a G-SSL comp but it does allow you to treat different sides of the crossover frequency with different compression...so you could smooth out the highs on a drum room tracks cymbals and punch the toms etc...

The design seemd strange enough that I bought one and I'll let you know how it goes I have started a collection of oddball compressors...including some old radio automated system units that can get really dirty if you want...(ABC audiomate 1000a)

By the way this unit utilizes a fairly complex (not hard for chips though) 4th order Linkwitz-Riley crossover (4th order is 24 dB/quite a steep drop-off) so there is no phase issues between the respective compression bands...and reading the manual the opamps are socketed and they actually encourage you to experiment but make no warranty claim of course!

It seems like someone went into a lot of thought about making this but for some reason they never took off...

In my head I'm trying to imagine how you would use this and it seems to have some potential, if you can imagine say setting it at 1kHz and treating everything below 1k differently than everything above 1k with no phase issues between the bands...the compressors would start doing their thing at everything before 1k and everything after 1k respectively...and there are 16 different frequency crossover points to choose from...seems interesting...kind of like a "tilt eq" but for compression.
