I have a firewire interface I want to ADAT with my new interface. Customer support told me I can run the interface w/o it being actively connected to firewire on the host computer.
BUT it does need to be connected at least once to set up the proper routing with the new interface in their control software.
I'm on W11 if that matters.
I have no idea about Windows however on macOS the Thunderbolt 3 -> Thunderbolt 2 + Thunderbolt 2 -> FireWire 800 adaptor combination works. As remarked above this does require that it's possible to install the driver on the OS you are using, supported or not.
