You might recall the well-regarded Overtone 4000 plugs vanished from sale about the same time. No one’s really speculated that SSL might have contested BX’s use of their brand, and that the “SSL Approval” was something done under duress. I certainly don’t have any inside info to suggest this, but then, neither does anyone else for their speculations.
