Just thought I'd get some opinions.
I have 100' runs of star quad that I use for stereo pairs with 5 pin xlr's and break-outs on the end.
I've built adapters out of Neutrik modules to use the same cables in mono to use the advantage of the star quad config. (saves me making stereo and mono versions of the long runs)
For example: 3F ->5M and 3M->5F, and use one on each end of the 100' run.
The idea is to use the long run cables for spaced pairs, each mic on its own run. That way can combine long runs and get the rejection of SQ. The only disadvantage I can think of is the weak link of the connectors in the path.
Opinions, or is this old news?

I do much the same. But I apparently don't operate in places where star quad demonstrates any perceptible advantage. Meh.

I have made for myself both 2x 3pXLRF -> 5pXLRM and 5pXLRF -> 2x 3pXLRM break out adapter cables. I use the 5p star-quad cable for pairs of mics (ORTF, etc) as well as for my 5pXLR stereo mics (Rode NT4, Sony ECM-5S, Shure VP-88, etc.)

I 6 pin XLR stereo Canare and break it to mono when needed from a cable drum of 10 x 10 m

Very flexible and no probs with Neutrix 6 XLRs in horrid locations.

6-pin? What pin connections? What benefits?

Means loss of compatibility with XLR5 stereo mics? (Add SM69 to above list.)

Otherwise, have been using star quad/XLR5 for stereo for over 25 years - never had any interference issues due to cable. (Belden 8412 when life gets tough - you could abseil down a 10 storey building with it.)

BBC originally thought 6 pin superior for line and mic sending in same cable
