Hi fellow gearslutters -

I'm posting this for my Daughter who is doing a weekly medical blog. She is in need of a $300 or less lavalier or headset mic that has a headphone jack that she can use for recording while doing exercises inside or outside. I am assuming it would also need a windscreen so it could be used outside. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Does "during exercises" mean vigorously moving around? There are particular styles of headset mics made for aerobics instructors and the like.

What does "have a headphone jack" mean? Does that mean something that will plug into her phone/tablet, etc? What exactly is the microphone going to be used with?

Is the destination gadget on her (phone in pocket, etc)? (Implying hard-wired.)
Or are you talking about seeking a wireless kit where the receiver plugs into a camcorder or something? (Implying wireless)

Good questions Richard. Yes, she will be moving around vigorously somewhat but not as much as an aerobics instructor. She is teaching qi gong and accupressure. Sometimes qi gong is very vigorous. Right now she using a wireless lapel lavalier mic. As far as headphone jack, it's the same jack on her iphone (she records directly into her iphone). I'm not sure but her current mic setup must have a receiver plugged into the phone if it's wireless. The destination gadget (her phone) is not on her. I think she is editing in imovie. So I believe she is seeking a wireless kit. I was also thinking that she's going to need a windscreen for whatever she gets since she is starting to film outdoors. I've heard some of her clips and noise reduction is definitely a necessity. I am hoping there is a kit that comes with that or perhaps there are generic windscreens she could use? Try binaural!

I have no idea how much they're going to cost, but these new binaural earbuds from Sennheiser could be an interesting option, especially if she thinks the majority of her audience will be wearing headphones or earbuds.

There is also these Roland binaural earbuds for under $100. If she's working out with other people around her, it would be a very immersive experience for the listener.
