Bit of a necro, but done a lot of work to my setup in the last 18 months, so nice to add the updates.

Decided early 2016 I was going to bite the bullet and convert my garage into a control room (doubling as home cinema / games and general nicer space to chill in as well), and leave the outhouse as built in this thread as a live room.

Got this all finished late 2017, so thought I'd post some updates!

One of the main issues with what is now the live room, is when I did the original build, I couldn't afford full HVAC and integrated heating, so it's not the nicest room to either mix in, especially in the winter time - great to play drums and crank up amps, nut very limited for anything else. Tracking was also limited in terms of really being able to hear what you were setting up - being in the same room for drums and loud guitars you are always going to get the room leaking into ur cans.

The converted garage is way beyond what I had originally been envisaging, it's made such a difference even in the couple of months i've been using it.

I like coming back to this thread every now and again to remember the outhouse build, so will add some retropsective 'diary' posts for the garage conversion as well.

Another necro bump, did a complete refurb on the live room, as it's been nearly 15 (FIFTEEN!!!) years since first got it completed - can hardly believe it's been that long!!

Anyways, since getting the garage converted into control room, the live room hasn't had much love for a long time and was in need of some TLC...

First up was removing all the gear and stripping back the old treatment...

Next was the hardest part - because the room doesn't have proper HVAC, I decided to strip everything back to the plaster to assess how things have held up in terms of damp / mould etc, the plan being that - touch wood - everything was still ok, I'd re-tank the floor, and re-prime the walls with anti-moisture primer, fully dehumidify the room then get new flooring and wall paint down...

...during this I regretted many times in the 6 weeks it took me (morning, lunch, evenings and weekends), as it was a real pain in the ass, vingera, chemical solutions all struggled to get the glue/paint and old primer off, so most of the work was done with a heat gun, but got there in the end, and after dehumidifying was really pleased to see that the walls and floor were still in great condition - no rising damp or other signs of mould etc...

Re-tanked floor - using Liquid DPM, and the walls were sealed with 2 coats of Zinsser Gardz anti-damp primer - which is AWESOME stuff.

And the completed re-furb with gear and treatment up.

Got quoted in excess of 2K to put in new lighting, so did it myself - for 95 bucks!

Really pleased with results, MUCH nicer space to be in!
