Behringer releases the 676 FET-style Compressor

The June 60 is mono in, stereo out, unfortunately via a single TRS, not two TS jacks. That was also an interesting case where they tried to make it a bit different in V1 of the pedal, presumably because it was a TC product and not intended to be a 1:1 clone. V2 of the pedal made the LFO rate match the Juno 60 (can be switched internally to use the V1 LFO rates, if you want).

And that demonstrates where Behringer seem to be with their brands — TC Electronic is the name they’ve used for more “inspired by” products, but Behringer is used for near identical products. They also seem to be refining their process. Some of the older stuff was further from the mark. Recent stuff is often indistinguishable from the original.

I’m really happy the Wazacraft pedals exist. Boss has done an amazing job on that entire lineup, so this is a situation where there’s lots of options and different price points. They’re expensive for pedals, but cheap when compared to studio gear, and very cheap compared to vintage units like the Dimension D.

I had an LA-610 10 years ago that got stolen, and I'm of course interested in the Behringer unit at this price (I'm aware of the differences of course)... But I'm wondering if its nearest competitor won't actually be an ART channel instead of the unit it's inspired from. Really curious to see/hear the first reviews.

I forgot to mention the option to bypass the comp section in the above gear and instead run into a 1176 style clone comp, not sure how close this would get sonically to the Berhinger 676, could possibly be close or nothing like it at all, just thinking aloud outside of the box, pun unintended.

Don’t have much time now, but here are some unpacking impressions.

Heavy and dense piece of kit. Knobs are sturdy, clicking reassuring in position and
Potentiometers have just the right amount of resistance and do feel surprisingly buttery.
Shafts and housings are brass and everything is screwed to the front plate.
Knobs are not cheap, have a nice vintage design and the white lines are sharp
and defined.
XLR connectors are original Neutrik. Through the lots of small ventilation holes,
the electronics look clean and produced / mounted to latest standards.
VU meter is front lit with 2 slightly of-white LED‘s from the left & right bottom up,
classic look like for example Otari.
Front plate is just over 4mm thick.
Behringer is making progress in haptics. Nice looking unit.
As I mentioned, don’t have time to hook it up right now.

Fun fact. Only flaw is the slightly of axis (glued?) B-Logo.
Probably a factory hint to remove it?

Can't compare it to the original anyways.
For me it (possibly) will be another useful color beneath 1073, ISA, Neumann and other staples.

I'm curious if the combination of the 676 with a CL1B directly connected, will render minimal post-processing needing vocal-tracks.
Stacked tubes and transformers nevertheless.

Wow that's a huge difference in the number of components inside the Two units, it will be interesting to hear how the B sounds.

I don’t believe it is much difference. Obviously the B is vertically mounted. But the pcb kinda look the same area size in total. Doubt those wima are used though.

Look at the PSU. Obviously a big shortcut went into that. And I'm a PSU freak. Take a look at a tube mic PSU I made the other day. I like the thing to have reserves. Though I made an 1176 some years ago (which I still have) I cant remember the exact voltage rails off the top of my head, but that PSU must supply 18V +/_ , 250V and 6.3V all regulated or at least properly filtered. These are round figures but you get my drift.

That they would use small modern smd components was no surprise.
They probably could have pressed it in a 1U

I have no orginal to compare with. On the other hand I am the cind of customer that it is made for.

Im not used to the 1176. The preamp is more quiet than remember my spl goldmike to be (and i liked that hybrid).
