I compared this to IK Tape Machines and although it's very good on its own, it didn't replace the IK machines for me.

The demo video is great, you can see that it adds something positive to the sound when doing A / B, glue and saturation.

Thought tapes phase passed already. So many tapes in the last 5 years, you can tape the entire city.

It became the new 1176.

I rather developers not be lazy and just copy from each other again and again, but develop things we don't have yet.

Gotta give props where it is deserved for all these newer ToneEmpire/BeatSkillz plugins, they sound phenomenal.

are they still being detected as malware threats by AVs?

I have Malware Bytes premium and i didn't get any alert once the demo had finished downloading. I'm not too worried anyways as it's mostly just related to their installers not potentially having the proper certificates for Windows at least. Can't speak for Mac

Former Reelight plugin has been made by Beatskillz so I would guess Tone Empire is the same company.

Donno about this. It it wasn't for Goodherz Tupe, then maybe. But Tupe is going to own all the tapes released previously, so...

This was obvious since quiet some time...

What really annoys me is that the VU's only show output. Would be great to switch the upper one to the input signal (like in Magnetite).

Why does your oversample system on all your plugins requires way more cpu compared to: Fabfilter, AnalogObsession, Melda, Lindell ?

Is there an upgrade price for Beatskillz Reelight owners?

I bought Reelight when it first came out so I'd be interested to know this too. Trouble is, I bought a new computer and the original Reelight doesn't authorise any more so I'm slightly hesitant in giving them more money. We'll see...

I like what I'm hearing but I don't like guessing. Would prefer number readouts for turning dials,especilaly with the pass filters. "Use your ears, not your eyes," yeah, I know, but I think my eyes have a lot to offer. Also, I don't have presets... Is that correct?

Good video. One thing though. He stated that he hasn't seen a tape plugin with the compression parameter. Reelbus 4 has had the compression parameter for a while now.

Ya, so does the grandaddy, the McDSP Analog Channel. It doesn't have a knob called "compression" but it most definitely emulates tape compression. Good company to keep though!

Ok, it looks beautiful, it doesn't trigger antivirus, and we're grumpy about yet another addition to the crowded space of tape machine plugins. In typical Gearslutz fashion, everything but the way it sounds.

I'm planning to demo soon; eager to compare to my copy of Black Rooster Magnetite.

I know I bought this plugin before so I looked on my Tone Empire account and it wasn't there. I was confused then I thought, oh wait, doesn't this guy also own Beatskillz so then I looked on that account and there is was.
Interesting that they would put it on their other company site.

Well, just saw the video and nothing impressed me enough to get it. I have every tape plugin out and they all are similar and so I just pick the best out of those or which ones are very different and have a thing to it and go with that.

My top 3 are:

1. Steinberg's: Yamaha Vintage Open Deck
2. Fusion Audio's: Flywheel
3. Black Rooster's: Magnetite

I have others in my plugin list like Avid's Reel tape, Crane Song's Phoenix or Wave's Kramer but only pick those if the 3 I mentioned didn't work which about 99.9% does.

Have you used the IK Tapes? They are my favourite and sit across 6 busses on my template. BUT they are pretty heavy on the CPU (I have an i9 9900k and it’s still a bit taxing).

If you have used the IK how do they stack up to the Strindberg Yamaha? I’ve been interested in those for a while.

The newest Tone Empire stuff has all been very good - the updates to Locness and Goliath were total overhauls to already decent sounding plugs.
Looks like they're taking the same approach as the new Goliath, combining modeling with IRs.
