Music-wise, DJ Studio is an impressive piece of software for DJs and music producers alike, which has gained a lot of praise via music media.
However, the software and the developer are not without their faults currently - and to the point where I imagine it will turn many potential customers away.
Perhaps the quickest way to sum up the benefits of this software for music producers is via this cheesily-named but pretty respected YT music channel called 'EDM TIps' (which I know will have some of you gnashing your teeth!), where the 'enthusiastic' presenter comments about the fairly decent stem separation, warping / tempo matching, AI auto-mixing and other functions, such as easy connectivity options, of this psuedo-DAW:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHHr7PiBhYQ
However, as found by both that YT commenter and me, currently the layout of the software / pseudo DAW is impossible to change in terms of moving GUI layout sections around (or reducing / expanding them, as you can easily do with most DAWs), which results in GUI space taken up pointlessly at the detriment of the user's preferences.
TBF, the company appears to update its product pretty regularly in recent weeks / months, so hopefully this GUI layout criticism will be addressed shortly.
Much more annoyingly (to the point where many potential customers might refuse to buy the software), the Dutch company behind DJ Studio only offer you the chance to login to your new DJ Studio account (created either whilst demoing the product, or after buying and activating it) via a linked sign-in with any of your Google, Facebook, Hotmail or Apple accounts.
The company claims that this method is the 'most secure' option for customers and themselves, as no passwords are stored via their own company.
However, frankly, it seems like just a blatant data grab of users' data information as when you link your Google account (as I have done for a demo version), then you are immediately met by a warning error from Hotmail / Google etc that you HAVE to allow access for the DJ Studio to access all your data stored on your Hotmail / Google etc account!!
What is the justification for this?
This is very unusual compared to more than 95% of other music software products on the market (which might give you an option to link your social media accounts, but they also allow you to instead / in addition create your own accounts via their company websites).
More to the point, how on earth can the company justify their GDPR obligations under EU law, which require data to only be held in a relevant, timely and transparent fashion (or deleted ASAP).
Why is this data harvesting of people's contacts and other sensitive / personal info (via our Gmail / Hotmail / Facebook accounts etc) needed for what is simply a music software app which aims helps people to mix / blend 2 songs together?!
Lastly, as per this help section on the company website:
https://help.dj.studio/en/collection...-install-setup
If you wish to delete your DJ Studio account (linked to one of your Hotmail / Google accounts etc), the company states on the above webpage that if you send a request to their stated email account (
[email protected]), they will comply.
But in terms of my experience of trying to cancel my Gmail-linked DJ Studio demo account, company reps have sent about 6 advertising / tutorial emails regarding their software during the past 2 days to my Gmail account, but they are yet to reply to my requests (sent to their correct email address) to cancel my account during this same timeframe.
As such, the software operates in a faily impressive manner currently, and hopefully will improve further in the future.
But it's fair to say that I'm more impressed with the software than the company at this point.
