A number of years ago, when my Waves account got all messy, some V12, some V10, V9, etc, I couldn’t bring myself to pay the WUP and I began using other plugs anyway so I just moved on and abandoned them. Now and then I am tempted to WUP at least a handful that I would still like to use but doesn’t seem worth it to me. Anyone else abandon their Waves stuff after more and more got a few versions behind?

Oh yeah... I haven't bothered with them in years.

I'm sure there are people that like their tools and are used to them etc as in the same sense I was... but whatever.. they don't do anything better than anyone else that I can think of, or wasn't hard to move on without them.... and I'm sure someone will have something they believe it does well on and I'm not gonna argue that as that's their workflow and their jam....

but they don't matter to me. I got a new system last year and I wanted to see how long I would/could/should hold out on their products... and granted, I've not lit the world on fire in that time... but it's not because of their absence in my process.

If it's a drag on you, as it became on me, and you can move on.... all good.

I'm sure most of of us are old enough to have experienced and left abusive relationships.

They aren't the 'worst', but they aren't the 'best' at anything I know... and of course that's all subjective...

I stopped using Waves when indeed my plugins were no longer running and I was requested to upgrade to whatever Vxx, no txs, will not touch anymore this brand

I dropped them to use all stock plugins for a while in Ableton. I really just used vocal rider to save automating out breaths during VO work. I might have had the PRS amp sim too.

So I wasn’t heavily invested, but also got put off by the upgrade scheme and never bothered installing any of it when I upgraded my computer back in 2020.

Haven’t missed a thing. Still mostly stock Ableton except for VSX.

Nope, still one of my favourite plugin companies. I don’t upgrade my MacOs so don’t need to wup.

Not really, I'm on v14 (free update from 13), but even as I use fewer titles, those I can't find replacements for — some alternatives would cost me $2-300 a piece and all of'em would be upwards of $1000 even when on sale — I find worth paying the WUP for. If I upgrade macOS I'll factor that cost in. I doubt my spread over singles and bundles warrants only paying for a few. I'll probably do it when it's a 25% WUP discount (was recently) next time. No sweat.

Exactly. Pure music computers don't need upgrading if they produce those sounds we want. That's why Studios or Minis are so interesting. I can use the net and what not on my MacBook.

I've wup'd 3 plugins I use regularly.

Otherwise all my Waves are on v11. Been using them since 1999 back when they used parallel port dongles

As a mixer that gets PT sessions with Waves plugins on them, I need to be able to open them and use them, or at least see how they are being used and if needed replace them with alternatives.

Waves plugins work. and no need to WUP unless I need a new feature on one of them.
