Someone on another thread mentioned a massive improvement for waves plugins going this. Nothing to lose I guess.

absolutely, it's reversable so why not i was curious to why I've only just heard of this.... I've been using Waves since V1.x

The website says it effects v14 and later. V14 came out 2022.
Guess they've only recently noticed the issue.

Does the fix completely fix the issue, or does an intel run v14+ plugins better fix or not - that's what I'm wondering.

TBH I don't use many waves as I used to. The main ones still are the Abbey Road plates and Chambers which I think sound great. (I've worked a fair bit at abbey road actually over the years ) I didn't actually notice any problems.


I should do a before and after test with those 2 loaded and see.

Would be interesting if it affects other plugins - try your testing template

SSL EV2 used like 27% of CPU/ASIO constantly on Ryzen 9 5900x - after the proposed optimization, CPU/ASIO went down to 2%. So, it works great.

Would be awesome if this makes the Dom Sigalas test or DAWbench run insanely better. @ TAFKAT did you try this?

neither of those test use waves plugins.

Thanks for this tip.......it worked! I have an AMD Ryzen. The NX plugins (I use CLA and Abbey Road) used to be in between 18-22 ish CPU usage, now they are about 5 ish. Abbey Road Chambers reverb still uses a really high amount (in the 20-22 ish range), but it is a great sounding plugin. The NX stuff, I always found that to be a bit unusually high, but then again, I just wrote it off as that maybe there was no way for Waves to get it lower than that without really sacrificing audio quality.

Edit: dBx 160 is also lower, when using the stereo version, it is now consistently 4 CPU, instead of 6-7. Also, the graphic GUI popped up automatically as 150 percent, so even the graphics are altered. Reel ADT, BB Tubes and Kramer Tape appear to draw about the same that they did before.

It presumably forces the library to load the more optimized version. I wonder what system-wide impact that may have, and if it's handling all the AMD variants.

You could put a registry watcher on, then run the utility and see if it's changing something there. It could also just be copying a lib over top of another one or something.
