Yes I agree with psycho monkey and you…honestly Avid’s audio interfaces are fantastic and rock solid. A friend of mine has Carbon which is a great closed system if it works for you with internal DSP and beautiful pres, I’ve used the MTRX studio with a loaded S4 - fantastic sounding snd easy integration…and I actually own a Mbox studio which I think they might have discontinued…but it sounds really great and is solid. I’ve had success with other high end interfaces too - like the galaxy synergy core, apogee, and focusrite stuff. But I would agree for a Pro Tools user, their equipment is the best. It’s a shame about the Mbox studio though - I think it just didn’t sell well because of its looks…but it leaves a hole in their lineup.

I simultaneously owned Radar, Motu, and Apogee, and picked up a Lynx because it worked so well with Protools HDX AAX. Thereafter, I ditched the Radar, Motu, and Apogee. Admittedly, my HEDD 192 did a better job for my 2-bus mix down from my analog console for my final AD conversion. I am a believer that any of the good converters are beyond “good enough” and have little impact on the final creation. 98% of the time my choice of converters is based on functionality for my purpose. Arguing over modern higher end converters often makes a person feel better about their personal expenditure. Emotion and brand loyalty aside, if it functions you can move forward with creativity. Being a slave to buying better and better gear will just cut into your creative energy and previous time to enjoy music.

Jon - I’ll definitely agree to that. Modern gear converters on all of these are really good and once you settle upon what works for your needs - you should stick with it and not get caught up in the next best product…or you will be creatively paralyzed! Congrats on your Lynx - great choice…they make solid long-lasting and great-sounding gear!

Exactly. Once you have something that meets your needs and sounds good I feel like you should stick with it as long as possible.

Personally, I'd love to run my lynx for the next 15 years. If they make a new connection card for it 5 to 7 years down the line... I'll be buying it to keep it going.

I know people that are still running the silver boxes that'll keep them till the box dies.

Honestly that's part of what scares me about avid. I've seen their system change so many times over the years and the ambiguous "we no longer support it but it'll probably work" thing isn't the game I want to play. If I could have bought a pair of 192 and known that they'd be good for another 5 to 10 years I would have been happy to do that. But I don't want to live in fear that any day an update could break my system.

I wouldn’t worry…that fear is overrated
We have Avid 192’s still working in our studio E with no problem on Ventura. I have an 003r that still works with windows. It worked even on my Apple laptop for years…it is only recently that Apple stopped supporting FireWire so it no longer will work on a new Mac. But honestly the interfaces work years after officially being supported…so I would let worry too much. The “probably will work” almost always does…never had it not work with their hardware…it keeps going with any updates thrown at it honestly minus the Apple FireWire that I mentioned that was discontinued a couple of OS’s ago.
