Altiverb needs to allow 2 activations at the same time...

Hello Everyone,

I was watching the Watch the Music episode with Reverb last night, and when they got the to place where they were showing Audio Ease creating the IR for the oil tank in Scotland, I was both excited to play with that new space, and then very frustrated due to Audio Ease's arcane authorisation policy... Basically, the only way to use your plugin on two machines (laptop and desktop) is by physically moving a USB iLock dongle... Seriously? My MacBook Pro does not even have a USB port! So, I wrote them this «please update/upgrade your authorisation policy so I can continue to use your products» letter:

Thank you, I hope you take this into consideration ASAP. I really like your product, and I paid a lot of money for it. But, it is not allowing me to be spontaeously creative when I need it most. Please update/upgrade your activation policy.

Please note, I am putting this out there because I like their product, just think they need to update their policy. If you feel the same, please let them know and maybe if we are numerous enough they might even do it!

I hear ya man. I won't even look twice at a product that allows less than two iLok authorizations -- having two iLok keys with simultaneous authorizations the only way to have real "zero downtime".

Exactly! I really think they are doing a cool product that is very well done. I just want them to enter the 21st century with their authorization system to keep me using it! There are too many other great reverb options out now doing it correctly to ignore this...

If anyone else feels like I do, please send them a message asking to change this. It seems they need nudging...;-)

Yes. I don’t understand the problem. I’m authorized on two computers with two different dongles.

Don't blame it on a 'outdated authorization system', it's just their policy to 'offer' only one installation.
Nevertheless I'm totally with you, switching authorisations between several machines is a pain, and most of my plugins allow for at least 2 (generally 3) concurrent installations. I think it's much more a punishment for genuine paying customers than an efficient measure against product misuse or piracy.

Just to follow-up: got a nice reply from the AltiVerb Folks saying that they know that this is an issue and it will be adressed in the next update of the program. Something about how ver 7 was made when iLock was the industry standard many years ago, and it will need a whole complete rewrite to implement the cloud and computer-based ilock options. No ETA for the next update, however!...;-) But, that was a nice thing to learn.

My MacBook Pro does not have a standard old-style USB port, and I do not carry an adaptor when I use my laptop, generally, because nothing I use all the time needs one. Also, why am I going to pay for another dongle, to use what I have already paid for and everyone else seems to be able to figure out to allow me to authorize on more than one machine at a time with no dongle?... Happy it works for you. Not worth dealing with for me, respectfully.

i complained to them about this like 15 years ago. they weren't interested in hearing it. several companies had same policy though changed it years ago to allow 2 activations.

i rage quit iLok over stuff like that once... then after some years and policy changes and dongle-free iLok i'm happily using most of those plug ins again. no altiverb or speakerphone though.

Can't tell for the Mac version, but if you're a PC user, be aware there's a bug in the latest 1.4.5 build whereby cascaded 'preset' folders are created in every project directory you are working on. Support is aware of the issue and mentioned it's harmless, but as someone working on many different projects requiring a tidy HD file structure, I hate having those folders appearing all over the place.

Back to version 1.4.3 awaiting for a fix.

This is BS, for the multiple activations, there's a setting in the iLok licensing system on the server side, where you set the Rules for the license, and one of the parameters available is called Concurrent Activations, go figure.

Shame on Audioease, for many working engineers, and commercial studios, two activations is the way they stay safe, with one spare iLok key containing a second activation of all their licenses, just in case anything effs up.

If I'm honest I'd settle for ANY updates to

Altiverb XL - Indoor - Speakerphone 2

Let's at least have VST3 and give speakerphone a GUI we can actually read ! Altiverb XL needs Atmos etc etc

I've a hell of a lot of money sunk in these product but it's sad to see that support is so poor.

I have a couple of impulses done by a friend that I would love to render into standard impulses that I can run in Open Air (Studio One) or any other convolution player. I understand the reason that AV is not allowing exports, but I guess I should be able to create an impulse response through AV with these impulses loaded, right?

Doing that would allow me to stop using AV and I could even sell my v6 licence to someone who needs two activations without breaking the bank...

Old thread, but just asked them about this and the answer was that they have no plans to change their activation policies.

I'd love to give them a change to stay in my templates, but still no native M1 support and no mercy for people needing more than one licence... its time to say good bye! If they even offered a reasonable price for the 2nd seat license I might consider, but for their prices, their policies, and ridiculously slow response to M1 transition, No way.

Yes, unfortunately seems to be a customer hostile company, though one has to assume they have a paying customer base somewhere that keeps them afloat still, odd!

I have had to stop using my (expensive) Altiverb reverb, as I need to move back and forth from studio computer to laptop often (I have a modern laptop and no interest in carrying around another lose-able / akward ilok for it when there are modern cloud/machine activation alternatives) - most professional oriented plugin companies allow for an additional iCloud or computer ilok authorization to make this happen, but not Audio Ease?

This is terrible support for pros who paid top dollar for the "best" reverb plugin. Get with the times Audio Ease, in 2023 this is how its done now.....

Mt main reason for no longer using Altiverb (Which was one of the most expensive plugins I have ever purchased) is the fact that in Nov. 2023 they are STILL NOT AAX NATIVE...

If you want professional studios to use your products then make current professional plugin versions for them to use.

I've switched over to Savant and Relab....and have a $600 plugin collecting digital dust.

Yes and the modernization support issues area a real bummer as I still love using the Altiverb to quickly audition the vibe of a bunch of varied high level spaces...

Huh?

They still only support one activation, when basically the rest of the software community has understood that it's both more convenient, and safer, with 2 activations.

If I was a pro engineer or a commercial studio, with my work depending on my tools, I would for sure always have one extra iLok available loaded with all my licenses as a fail over in case anything happened to my working iLok.

Never heard of it and if it's not Native AAX I'll pass...

ProTools and Apple Silicone is pretty much SOP for a LOT of studios now...

Indeed, even if an iLok per se can be moved from one workstation to another, it's definitely not always desired, depending on the situation, which is also an argument for providing 2 licenses with a software/plugin. Luckily most software houses are doing this and has done so for ages...

Someone has been suggesting Altiverb 8 has dropped but so far I haven't seen anything from Audio ease to suggest this is true.
