Hi there
I'm going to start recording my album soon and with that the time for upgrading my setup has come.
Mainly I want to upgrade to a new interface with more inputs from my Scarlett 6i6 (2nd gen) because I need more analog mic inputs. I'd really love to have 4 and am probably not going to need more than that anytime soon. I'm running kind of a singer-songwriter setup and love to record live takes, so I'd like to be able to record the guitar in stereo while still being able to have a dedicated vocal mic – with that, I'd still have an input left over for a room mic or a DI.
These are the interfaces that are on my list currently:
- Audient iD44 Mk2
- SSL 12
- UAD Volt 476P
- Focusrite Clarett+ 4 Pre
They're all in a similar price range (400-700$). I'd also be willing to spend more if there would be a significant upgrade in the quality of the converters or preamps.
That said, something like the Antelope Zen Tour Synergy Core sounds pretty great too. Would that be a noticable step up in audio quality? Any experiences with the unit?
Any thoughts or experiences regarding the interfaces on that list? Are there other good alternatives that I'm missing?
Also: As stated, I'm currently not using external mic preams. Should I be? I don't have any external gear so I'd have no idea where to start... Maybe a mic pre for some tube saturation? I don't have any tube mic – I have two very transparent TLM 107s that can get a little sterile sometimes, especially on my vocals – maybe that would make sense? Or would it be better to spend the money on something else like a tube mic?
Any help/advice would be appreciated

Thanks in advance.
