Using External Mic Pre w/ Discrete 8

I have an Antelope Audio Discrete 8 and I'm wanting to run my UA 2-610 external Mic Pre through it. Can I plug straight into the Discrete 8 inputs? How do I bypass the built in pres on the Discrete 8? Thanks in advance!

To anyone who may stumble upon this later and have the same question, I talked to Antelope Audio and this is what they said:

"Yes, you can bypass the built-in (Discrete) mic-pres by taking a line out cable ending with a TRS from your UA 2-610 and plug this TRS into the line-in combo jacks of your Discrete interfaces, you have 4 of them in the Discrete 4 and 8 of them in the Discrete 8. This way you're bypassing the built-in mic pres."

Does this mean that using XLR into the combo jacks still enables the Antelope Mic Pre? As in, only TRS cables will bypass the mic pres?

That's common for lot of interfaces, TRS in combo jack is for line level input, XLR is for mic level input, as each has different sensitivity.
So if you have external mic pre with line level outputs, you should pretty much assume, TRS in is the right way at majority of audio interfaces with combo jacks.

Michal as always is a wealth of information in what he's describing

I own the Discrete 8 and can confirm it works as described; the line level inputs are indeed TRS and the mic pre is XLR as expected. Additionally, the Discrete 8 control panel allows you to switch between mic input (which gives the option for 48v obviously), line level, or 1/4" instrument on the first two inputs.

If you look at a picture of the rear of the unit you'll see it's clearly labeled that way, too.

Hey guys.

I have been around the houses with this as I also use a synergy core discrete 8 with external pres.

The bad news I’m afraid is, you can’t bypass the pres on these devices. Even in line level mode with a trs connection you will still be going through the pres and they will be effecting the signal.

Bit of a bum steer by antelope to call it a line in when it’s not.
