Are MicroSD card fast enough to use as storage for multitrack session? say 4-6 simultaneous tracks? lets say 24/96 for discussions purposes

I am trying to put a laptop based setup for remote recording. If the Micro SD cards are capable, that would really solve a problem for me

That is very hard to estimate. The basic throughput is definitely good enough for 6 tracks.

But like most flash storage write performance can suddenly collapse when too much has been written. They can also get hot and are hard to cool.

I did a quick search on Amazon and a $19 SanDisk 128GB Extreme microSDXC UHS-I can do up to 90MB/s according to Sandisk. 24 bits * 96,000 = 2,304,000 bits/s... /8 = 288kB/s.

So if we assume the card overheats and pure write performance falls off a cliff to only 10% of maximum that's still 9/0.3 (rounded) = 30 mono tracks.

Those cards are so cheap you might as well just buy one and try it out. Having said that I know nothing about reliability etc. so... I think your best bet might be to search a video forum for recommended media. Something like Blackmagic Design's forum or Adobe's. You'll probably find people that use various flash media that can recommend what is reliable, and their demands are usually quite high.

Your best bet indeed is to just buy a card and try it in a practice session to see if it will work. I read this article that talks about how laptop card readers are all over the map in their performance - it's not just down to the specs of the card. Even though this article is about regular SD cards (not microSD) I think the point is the same.

Fair enough, I can give it a shot. I am limited on my isb ports but maybe a external drive is still the better option

I expect 6 tracks at 24/96 should be fine even without resorting to an external USB reader. If you put together the numbers mattiasnyc used - 288 kb/s for a hi res track x 6 tracks = 1,728 kb/s. Then looking at the write speed chart in the linked article, the worst performing laptop in that test had a write speed of 25.6 Mb/s.
