Jaycen Joshua uses this trick he got from a producer, using 8 instances of NLS BUS from WAVES. The settings :
Mike
Nevo
Spike
Mike
Nevo
Spike
Mike
Nevo
All set to 0.5db.
It does sound cool, but i'm wondering if there isn't a simple way to replicate this with a single plugin ? I've tried a few and tried to match with a test tone + analyzer + my ears, but couldn't get similar results.

Sounds like a recipe for massive aliasing. You could check out AirWindows Console7Crunch or Console7Cascade if you want it heavy. If it's something else, AirWindows have plenty of console plug-ins, that actually sound quite interesting. It does take sometime deciding which ones you like though.
What is it you like with this setup not available using channel and buss plug-ins as designed? You call it "this". Hardly specific.

Hi! I also heard of this somewhere.. Do you know what level one should hit this chain with?
So after having watched this I remain sceptical to this alleged "Jaycen Joshua" approach. What haven't been explained yet is what the advantage is supposed to be according to Joshua.
Also, interesting Beat Spot suggests the AirWindows plug-ins I suggested. Note, that at least the Console7 series work with channel encoders and buss decoders. While abuse is one way to find new great sounds; if it sounds good it does; that's still the suggested structure in the design behind many (though not all) console plug-ins.
"β¦the NLS Buss chain that Jaycen Joshua uses at the beginning of his drum buss to give him the analog warmth of working on an SSL board. Keep in mind that he does use other processing after this chain on his drum buss including compression and saturation."
(My embolden)
No further explanation given. If this came from "a[nother] producer" as suggested by @

, then it would now seem Joshua is taking full credit for it, or alternatively Waves saw it fit to credit him.
I just like the sound of this chain and i don't care about aliasing.
I too thought this was silly but i haven't found any plugin that sounds the same, and i've tried a lot. I've been using plugin doctor to watch the harmonics frequency response.
Seems like Jaycen will soon release a plugin that will replace this chain, but there's no date.
I now use Studio Rack to create this chain, it's easier for sure.
Yeah, but don't hundreds of other methods punch just as well? Assuming "it" here means the Jaycen Joshua NLS Drum Buss.
Iβm sure they do. I just tried the jj drum bus thing out of curiosity. Two things struck me when I tried it
1. the perceived bump in volume. Felt like 2ish db louder to me but zero increase on the meter.
2. I was expecting so many instances of nls to sound very muddy but it did not.
