Looking at combining all of the above on a single 3.0 port. Is there enough bandwidth?

My soundcard is basic stereo in/out using ASIO at 44.1K.
My 2x controllers are basic midi usb keyboards.

I think I may have tried in the past but was unsuccessul possibly due to a USB 2.0 slowing down the 3.0 port..I am not sure.

The midi controllers were also fighting to some extent for visibility in my DAW in Windows. Maybe this is a separate issue.

Is the Soundcard and 2x controllers, USB 3? Are you using a powered hub? Also if you have these on a USB 3 port, and they are USB 2.0 devices, that could be the problem. Try USB 2 port. USB 3 can make ya or break ya.

My HW controller are spec for 2.0 with little power consumption (Korg Nanokey + M-Audio 49) as well as soundcard.

The 2 controllers are presently sharing the USB 2.0 port via unpowered hub and soundcard on the 3.0 port.

I think I tried to have all 3 at one point on the 2.0 port (because I have a 2.0 hub) and that was causing midi to drop from time to time.

Is it a power issue or a bandwidth or allocation conflict perhaps that gave me trouble on the 2.0 port?

I would like know if all 3 can work on a single port (2.0 or 3.0)..?

You need an USB 2.0 powered hub for the Korg Nanokey + M-Audio 49, as both are buss powered and that add's up on one 500ma port. And what is your Soundcard? USB 3 wont help with more power to a USB 2 as there's 4 more pins that the USB 2 can't use.

EDIT= The USB 3 has 5 more pins, I forgot about the extra ground/drain.

What else is USB 2? You may be able to put, like the mouse and one keyboard on the hub and use the mouse port for the other keyboard. You kind of see what I mean?

Are you saying that for USB 3 it should be matched with USB 3 devices mostly as opposed to mixing 2 and 3 together?

That's really hard to pin down, USB 3 claims to be reverse compatible with USB 2 , but for some reason the difference in the protocols, don't always jive. See it a lot.

how many usb 2 ports do you have? And your interface, is it usb 2? and what is your computer keyboard and mouse, are they usb or ps2?

I am simply trying to free up USB ports I have 2x 2.0 and 1x 3.0.

I am mostly wondering why I had midi dropouts at one point when everything was on the 2.0 port.

I will experience a little more and buy another hub...it looks like there is some grey area with this USB business.

What OS are you using?

Win10! :-)

If your OS is windows, you can go into device manager, scroll down to universal serial bus controllers, expand that and double click on each Hub, You may be able to see in advanced, the BW% Band Width and click power, that will show how much in milliamps that hub and each of it ports are using. Look at all the hubs. Just something that may come in handy.

Something I do in there is on each hub you'll see power management, you'll see let computer turn off this device to save power. I uncheck those, just because the computer might turn off something as it idles, like a keyboard..? i just do it that way.
