I paid serious money for the card plus it's loaded with some serious plug-ins. The card work 50% of the time the other half I get (error code 38). I have been going back and forth with UA for a month and a half now still no solution. The card is out of warranty. Am I the only one going through this.

If your UAD2 card works 50% of the time I would say it's not the card, it's either your computer's PCIe slot, some conflict or you need to reinstall your software. First thing I would do - Put the UAD2 card in another PCIe slot if possible. These cards either work or they don't, period.

1) clean your computer - thoroughly! get compressed air and some cleaning tools and really get in there.

2) take out the card and reinstall it- I would try a different slot.

What motherboard or computer is the card on and what OS are you running? And is it a dedicated DAW or a little of everything?
That would tell me a lot if I were diagnosing. But yeah for now trying another slot would be telling, as well as removing any other PCI cards that are slower or not needed.

Thank you all for the replies OS X El Capitan 12 core, we change the pci slot already same issues I seriously don't it's my computer. It's just a real pain to invest all this money and have a product not working as advertised.

Have you used the card for a long time previously and it stopped working solidly, or did you buy a 2nd hand card with licenses which runs troublesome?

I feel your pain brother - is OSX setup to allow Windows side by side or separately? Or would it be a pain to try?

The only other thing I can think of before out of ideas, is something I learned about USB 3.0 addon cards on many OSXs. And that's that waking from Sleep will cause data corruption in most Macs from Snow Leopard and higher. I wonder if your Sleep mode is set to your liking.

I try everything and it's not always fun but always worth the "character-building" session(s).

What DAW are you using? My Quad PCIe card decided it wasn't going to work anymore in Pro Tools 12, but still works like a champ in Presonus Studio One.

Try creating another partition on your boot drive and install Mavericks? The latest isn't always the greatest... YMMV

The card is hardware, it happens. Cars that ran well stop running well. Refrigerators that ran well stop running well. Computers that ran well stop running well.

It sucks, but that is just the reality.

This is something I'm going through too... I was 1-week outside my warranty when I finally "realized" that it was the card starting to fail.

Thankfully, UA replaced it... now, here's the weird part.

The replacement card came & the issue persisted —*f*CK!!! I was pissed & I felt like I must have been stupid during the troubleshooting stage.

Turns out, and I found another thread on this page about it, that this just happens with Mac Pros and these cards.

What's strange to me is that it didn't used to happen at all*—*now it's happening 40-50% of the time for me too.

Here's what I'm learning:

re-starts don't cause it to show up again... only a full power-down / power up.

Many people on this other thread (linked below) have mentioned that this is really an early symptom of a failing power supply on the mac pro (thankfully, that's only a $250-$300 part)*

Right now, I'm dealing with it*— I have two UAD Cards in my tower, so I've always got one showing up... it's the 2nd that's dodgy, so if I'm just doing tracking, I don't have to worry*— but on a big mix session, I check the cards in the UAD app before I start working. If they aren't both present, then I have to shut down & restart (mostly I get it back after 1 attempt... sometimes 2 or 3)

I don't buy into the power supply theory. The few times I've been told I had such a symptom it always turned out to be an early symptom of RAM failure. You could try swapping power supplies if that's possible, that would tell you then and there. And while it's remotely possible it's a physical RAM problem my intuition is telling me it's more likely a memory mapping problem or permissions issue.

Did you do all of your installing of hardware as Administrator? Just checking. Something is kicking out your plugs and I don't think hardware is surgical enough to do that without taking other things down.

Ohh.. how about this? Can you power the UAD card from external power? That would be real telling too in one last hardware probe,

Dude close to two months of back and fourth with UA and the issue persist to the point that I stop buying and using their products out of frustration I just wanted to A. Find a permanent solution B. See if I was the only one. The following methods were tried: moving card to new slot, reverting to legacy uad software which completely shut down the card.

If it used to work and now it doesn't, it could be a problem with the card. It's a computer device. Things fail. If it's out of warranty that's not UA's fault. Send it in and have them look it over. I had a quad card that ran for years, no issues.

I had exactly the same problem. It resolved (with help from Uad support) by upgrading the power supply transformer to a bigger one.
