The opposite situation with something like a sampler makes for a module that can be kinda painful to use. The soundmachines UL-1 is a very basic sampler with no menus or switches or anything. I bet you the Reflex will be a lot more fun.

The Rossum sampler I'm looking forward to because I think it's going to be a lot more basic than it might first appear and that's why I'm jonesing for one. Take a good look at that layout. If you've used a few E-Mu machines, it probably looks familiar because what we have here is an E-Mu sampler without the filters and with less menu-diving. All of the basic stuff is right there on the front panel. A friend of mine might be selling me his Circadian Rhythms, so coupled with this, I think it will be a real contender for most-straightforward rhythm machine of all time.

I printed a pile of theses and left them around my studio for when I'm using Clouds.

I'm with DRXCM (mainly because they're out of my price range right now): You may want to give the Echophon and the Erbe Verb more time before bailing on them. Especially since you've got a system of that size, so lots of places to patch in and out of them. The raw tone may not be your think, but what you can do with them when CV'd will likely knock your socks off.

As far as the others, I'm afraid I have most of them already. I'd kinda recommend giving the Analog Replicator another shot, though. It's a pain to tune in to the exact delay you want sometimes, but that BBD is something that's very lively and full of character. Would you rather have a real analog delay there or just a software approximation?

Edit: Do you have a Modular Grid account? I'd love to get an up close and personal view of what you're rocking there.

Just a thought, but have you thought about either switching to or incorporating a 5u system? Most of the modules there aren't too adventurous, but they make up for it with most of the modules sounding more like a traditional analog system. DotCom oscillators sound gigantic and I've read a lot of people saying the same sort of thing about ModCan and Moog.

I continue to thoroughly enjoy your musical creations. You are brining me closer to the modular rig I been manifesting. Like I said last time, keep these coming... maybe some more patch notes would be helpful.

Also, how are you liking the SQ-1 for sequencing the Mutable setup you have?

As for the SQ-1, as much as I loved it previously with my Korg MS-20 mini and Arp Odyssey, I actually hate it with the Mutable stuff (though I do like that I can sequence two different things with it.) Just using it temporarily until I can afford the Intellijel Metropolis (end of April hopefully.) Though, I may keep using it to save on HP real estate (and I actually have two SQ-1s.)

The plan in this two row setup though was to have two sequencers; the second, along with the Metropolis, being the Make Noise Rene, but that's so much HP real estate being used right there. Instead of the Rene I was also considering the new Lifeforms touch keyboard/sequencer, or for less real estate and more sequencing options, the ModCan Touch Sequencer... but I really want the Rene as it would be a nice additional hands-on compliment to the Metropolis. Of course when I expand to four rows, I'll have all of the above...

I also currently have the Pressure Points which I was going to add Brains to, but it's pissing me off at the moment and I'm thinking of getting rid of it. It worked great when I first got it, but now I just can't calibrate it right to work properly. It's alway got two or three pads frozen or if I hit one pad, it plays a different one erratically. So not sure what I'm going to do with it yet...

After taking another look at Richard Devine's rack, I've started eyeballing this one as well. I'm a bit on the broke side right now because of all these recent acquisitions (which ended up costing more than the Vostok will sell for so go me!) but my longterm plan is to eventually sell the Beatstep Pro (I've gotten all the kinks worked out, but I'd prefer to keep all my toys in the rack) and the Oberkorn and replace them both with Circadian Rhythms, Stillson Hammer mkII, and the Touch Sequencer. It's way more expensive this way, but if I can keep it all racked up, I'd be happy. This way if I ever decide on a case, I'll be ready to go.

I've had most systems over the years.
I'm not after simple, or vanilla sounding modules.
It's just that when I'm using the modular system, I'm using it primarily to make music (as output). I don't want to spend an hour figuring out, or remembering, how a module basically works.
Even Synchrodyne and Elements are quite intuitive, and interesting sounds can be gotten quite quickly.
I'm just avoiding all the new fangled modules most people at Muff's seem to be passionate about, because it's more about bells and whistles than anything else.
An 8 voice mutli-timbral sampler in the small Euro format is a prime example (IMO).

I'm pretty much in this camp. I can't afford to be busting out manuals for modules past the first wiggle or 2, it needs to fun and intuitive. First off, one of the main appeals of modular for me was trading menu diving for patching and knob twiddling, and it was a great trade. I don't feel a strain remembering which plug or knob does what, which makes it far more fun. The only thing I ever have to reference now for my process is the Octatrack manual, and that might never change. The most complex module I plan on owning is a Disting, nothing compared to some of this new stuff coming out...

When I first saw the Rossum sampler, I instantly thought "oh wow, I could sell my OT and go all euro" (a common reaction I am sure) but then I thought about how much time I have invested in learning the Octatrack and the fact that to properly run this thing I would need another row$$$ and a bunch of sequencers$$$ I don't have to even come close to what I can do with the OT. Fockin GAS. I don't need that sh1t, period. Instead I'll just add more Midi-CV capability and keep on Octatrackin'.

I see Modcan getting mentioned above, if your after some of these modules I'm afraid you'll have to look secondhand as the guy behind Modcan has ill health for sometime and output has stopped, hope he gets well soon and churns out the modules.

Got a Batumi in with expander. 13HP, so now got to look for something else that's odd HP.

Malekko 3HP and Bubblesounds 5HP stuff is catching my eye. Got a new case on the way as well.

Here's a picture of things in process. My existing case is a mono rocket with 120 HP rows, but if you can get modules that overlap the edges, you can fit in 122HP.

Going to add some function generators next.

Ive got just over 1 hour to decide weather to buy Vermona Fourmulator, I'm blowing hot and Cold, i love the LFO's on my Perfourmer MK2 however they are Analog and the Fourmultor is Digital for obviously different LFOs, and there are issue with the Master reset when in external clock mode according to the forums ........ but 20% off does sound nice , decisions decisions

If I may interject: Seems like a lot of money for four LFO's that have fairly basic functionality. I know you have this thing against their wood panels but... Bastl CV Trinity? Less money, more channels, more functionality, more zaniness. If you message Grayscale, they'd probably be willing to make a panel for you since you're not in the minority in not liking their panels.

Anybody here do any Arduino programming? I keep finding these Arduino-based modules (i.e. I just bought a Grains) and I'm curious: How hard would it be for a newb to program new algorithms for one of these things? For reference, I'm getting surprisingly competent at using the 8-Bit synth in Caustic (for those who don't use it, it's an equation driven synth.) Hoping maybe I can make up for my weak soldering skills with some mad programming skills.

Trinity is tempting

What appeals to me about Fourmulator is its looks very hands on and instant, Trinity looks as if ill have to remember a lot of stuff when I'm at an era where my brain is shrinking.

That's true. I can attest that Trinity is not an easy module at first, but once you get your head around the way it's programmed, it's easy to get what you want out of it. The LFO and ASR functions are easy to get a grasp on, it's just that knob recorder's a little tricky. The bright side is that the buttons are labeled for what they do when you hold the shift button down.

That buddy of mine from waaaaay back in this thread that bought that whole system off of eBay finally had a chance to sit down with it. The system was very hodgepodge. Whoever purchased all those modules didn't plan ahead very well. So after sorting through everything, here are the modules he's looking at getting rid of:



I've already got an Asteroid BD, but otherwise I'm trying to work out something with him so that I can buy them all off of him later when I've got some hard currency instead of invisible monies. (He just got a large insurance payment when both his parents croaked around the same time, so he's not hurting for monies.) Any opinions on any of these modules from people that have used them? Speaking of the Wogglebug that Cane is agonizing over, am I understanding correctly that this West Coast Random thingy will get me close if not all the way there?

In the end it all felt a bit rushed, so seems i had 20% off i got an Intellijel Triatt and some components, Triatt is something I've needed for sometime.
and that means i still have money over for the Random source/Serge DSG & NTO PCB/Panels due out in the next month.
