*NEW* ST77 from Sterling Audio (PICS)

just got a chance to check out the newest mic from the former Groove Tubes mic company now known as Sterling Audio. sorry for the low quality. i had to use my Sidekick. looks pretty cool. big 'ol fat transformer on the bottom there. Class A FET. gonna try it out in a bit. looks like a great mic for $500.

Any word on this mic.. I was at the old GC this morning, saw this mic.. I had a GT55 a while back, didn't like it too much, thought it was a little harsh.. That capsule had that resonator disk on it, the electronics were decent/good components and the build quality was decent..

It looks like this has a different capsule, no resonator disk/brass tension ring rather than the plastic of the previous generation.. The mic is HUGE, looks decent, wonder how it is sounding?? Got any mixes yet?

its a great mic, just used it on acoustic guitar yesterday and liked it better then a 4050 for the acoustic, also nice on smooth male vox.

I did some vocals today with the ST55 through a Brick. Sounded pretty good. The Brick really helped to alleviate the ST55's main flaw, which is that brittle high end.

I use the ST77 a lot. great for smoothing out female vocals. It was used for all the vocals on Lisa Valentines album, thru a focusrite ISA and a dbx160x modded by revive music. check it out.

I used this mic for more than 3 years in my home setup. It was good! I didn't use it with any high end preamps or serious setups, but everywhere I worked with it it delivered. It seems like a pretty durable mic and both if mine were very consistent between them. Worked good on drum overheads and for room miking. Nothing amazing in the sound but for what it could do it was consistent across the board for delivering with everything from vocals to trumpet. After I got more high end mics I used it for background vocals to give that different sound in the mix that didn't cut through as much. I've actually been debating getting another one or two again for that exact purpose.
